A new needle finally made it into my longarm machine after days trying to avoid doing it. I loaded this solids and prints Star quilt and got it quilted. The thread broke 3 times but it is the So Fine which I hadn't had any luck with for a couple months, with it breaking 5 or 6 times while quilting a small quilt. I may try adjusting the position of the needle and see if the next one goes even smoother.
I decided one loop in each square would be an easy way to quilt it.
I used a beige thread so it shows better on this block.
After I finished quilting I cut the binding for Charley in the Forest, sewed it on the quilt and got 85" hand stitched last night. This one will take me at least 3 more days to finish.

You did have a productive day. 85 inches of binding in one night sounds like a lot. I don't change the needle in my quilter nearly as often as I should.
Wonderful choice on the Charley in the Forest binding! And that quilting plan worked well. I hate putting a new needle in Max - always takes extra fiddling to get things working smoothly again. WHY is it such an issue for long arms? Seems like a minor design change could make it a lot easier . . .
I wish I could stick with the binding on the quilt I am doing like you are - I have been so sidetracked this time - normally I get it done fast.

The assortment of prints for the Friendship Stars is just wonderful! 9" blocks?
For your thread breakage, put a few "stripes" of Sewer's Aide thread lubricant on your thread before sewing. Sometimes, the thread can get "brittle" and break easier.
That fabric looks great for the binding! Such a nice colorful frame. I know long arm issues put a damper on getting things done. I hate thread breaks. I wish the needles were like on a regular machine- flat side the right way and no issues. The round needles are very touchy to position.
That binding looks great! You have made a lot of progress too on getting it sewn. I missed reading yesterday's post. Those pieces you found for that quilt top are beautiful! It has to feel good to get them made into a quilt top after all these years.

Wow! You're certainly on a roll and are speeding along. Well done on getting the Star quilting finished and 85 whole inches along the binding in your Charlie quilt. Is your head spinning yet?
