The same top thread was used on this I Spy 1 quilt that was used on the last 3 quilts, no problem on them. I had at least 12 thread shred/breaks on this one. I changed the needle in the middle of it but that didn't help. But, it is done.
This is one of the oldest fabrics, from somewhere in the 1991-95 time range.
I love the tractor print. My dad never had a tractor that looks like that but I saw many tractors in my childhood. We also had a windmill like that over the outside water pump. We didn't have an inside bathroom until I was 2 and I don't know if there was plumbing in the kitchen until then either. Eventually the windmill was taken down when I was young and the pump closed off.

Hi Wanda, I enjoyed your windmill story. The story and image reminds me of our family farm in Wisconsin, near Cumberland. The windmill still stands but with hardly any blades, just so nostalgic though. My cousin lives there now with her son and her dad, my uncle. Everything in the house has been modernized of course, but I remember when the kitchen sink had a hand pump, and my grandmother cooked on a wood burning stove in the kitchen. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
Oh yes, my Grand-mere had a water hand pump for the kitchen sink and a wood burning stove...a big, black stove that always had a kettle "on the boil" . Just amazing when you think about today's modern convenience kitchens, isn't it? Not really that long ago in some ways...
Good news that you got the quilt done!! I am happy to have finished my Bramble center; no more small hand stitching for me...
38 this morning and sunny once more. We have a big rain and wind storm due Sunday night to Monday...hoping I can get to my appointment early on Monday morning.

your farm live reminds me of when my family moved from town to the country around 1960, the old farm house had no plumbing - we moved in and the used the outhouse until my dad and grandpa dug (with shovels) a septic tank and got plumbing in the house (this was in Wisconsin). There was a log house on the property which had a treasure trove of junk in it that we loved to explore and find things.
With all those thread issues you had to cope with, this quilt turned out so nice. And those cute little red fluffy birds are a delight. And yes that tractor and your memories ~ I too have those same memories from my grandparents farming days. Many of us must be in the same age bracket, with in a year or two. (*._.*)

Some quilty days are like that, with thread breaks and issues, but your preseverance paid off. And how nice to use up some old fabrics. My parents were born in a city, but they had shared bathrooms and a shared water pipe in the hall. Hard to believe how far we have come! Congratulations on the lovely finish, and happy holidays!
I'm so sorry about the annoying thread bothers. Long ago I had a spool that actually had knots in the thread that were wound on the spool and hung up at the needle. I threw that spool away! Love the quilt and well done in getting it finished despite the thread bothers.
My Dad worked for International Harvester (for some stupid reason now called 'Navistar') and in the '30s and '40s drove an IH school bus delivering parts to and taking orders from dealers all over Virginia and then was a manager at the Memphis Parts Depot. I have an affinity for IH tractors and inherited my Dad's collection of 9 miniature (not tiny) tractors that I got to play with when I was a child.

I love your quilt and sorry about all the thread breaking, that can be very discouraging. How fun to be wrapped up in it and get lost in all the fun fabric. Your quilts are treasured jewels.
Oh boy, do I feel your pain. I went through this a couple of weeks ago. I have not quilted since. I changed bobbin thread and rethreaded the whole machine. Nothing is as aggravating.
How frustrating to have thread issues when it hadn’t been a problem on the last quilts. That kind of takes the fun out of the finishing process but at least it is done.
Someone is going to have a ball with this quilt, they will be busy for hours picking all the different motifs.
Thread breaks are so frustrating, especially when nothing I try works! I also love the older fabrics you used. Such great variety!
