Yesterday morning I worked in the basement. again trying to get things put away and get table tops cleaned off. In one box I found the batik pieced sections that made these blocks. I sewed the blocks and then made them into a table runner top. I will look for the light fabric I used for the background and if I find it, I'll add a narrow border all around.
Last night I quilted the Australian/Aboriginal table runner and sewed on the binding. I'm almost done with the hand stitching on the binding.
While I was in the basement I auditioned 2 Martha Negley fabrics for backing for this quilt. I have 4 yards of each of them which I just figured out isn't enough. I will have to figure out a creative way to add an additional fabric.
I actually do have another smaller piece of this fabric in addition to the 4 yards.
Even though they are both darker than the quilt top I think either of them would work.
This is how I know it is time to cut another Peony bouquet. I'll be carefully removing these flowers from the vase as they drop their petals everywhere.
I did cut the new bouquet and it is mostly light colored blooms. It is in the garage overnight for all of the ants to crawl out before it comes into the house.
About a week ago I showed a Coral Bell plant that was growing between 2 pavers. Yesterday I pried up one of the pavers and pulled the plant out and replanted it in a bare area. It had added some new leaves since I took the first photo. The leaves are green, purple, and red on this plant. They change during the summer depending on how much sun the plant gets.
I have lots of weeds to remove and then plant something behind this plant.
I don't have Tiger Lilies in my front garden any more but a bird probably planted this one for me in the crack between the sidewalk and steps. I'll let it bloom and then cut it down.
I have several small Cranesbill volunteer plants this year. This one is too close to the big Coral Bell to leave it there.
Today I'll work on my May monthly recap post fomorrow.

I LOVE seeing your flower pics. My peony trick on the table is that I use a different table topper with each vase. I have enough table toppers AND my table toppers are built to be used and washed and loved. Each time I have to move a bouquet "back to the earth", I just pick up the table topper and all. Then I get to get another table topper out to enjoy to go with my next bouquet.
LOVE "crack planted" volunteers!
I see how you snuck the table runner finish in there ;-) It’s close, but I think I prefer the green MN print. What a lovely soft finish that one will be.
pretty batik blocks...
That's a pretty table runner! Either of those two fabrics look great with your Martha Negley quilt. It must be pretty big if 4 yards isn't enough.
It has been so long since I cut a peony, I forgot all about the ants on the blooms. They used to dismay me until I read that they are beneficial. How funny the plants that like to squeeze into sidewalks in your yard! Some of the white crape myrtles around town have started blooming. We have whites, but so far no bloom buds on our trees. My day lilies are going to town though! The frequent rains and cooler temps have really helped all the trees and foliage in our area. I hope you are able to catch up soon.
Nice Saturday post Wanda ~
It has been a long time since I pieced a backing for a quilt as I prefer wide backs for that. I have seen some where they place a different color in the middle in a wide strip when it isn't wide enough I don't know if you like that look but that could be one thing to do. I need to get outside today and pull up some trees and try to get some garden work done - I put it off too much now that I can't get up and down as well as I used to.
I have been planting pots and trying to keep up with weeds, but more to do. Our peonies are only buds except the tree peonies that are now done. Been very cool here. Not complaining.
I do like the MN fabric on the left hand side as a border. but as you say either would fit so well.
