Behind the scenes work.....................

I have been avoiding a lot of the behind the scenes work that leads up to a successful quilt.  I have the choice of not posting on my blog until I have a project in progress but I choose to continue to post every day, a safety net for me.  There are a few of my readers that contact me if there isn't a post some morning and ask if everything is OK.  Occasionally I forget to click on Publish or forget to change the time of the post to 3:30 a.m.

Last night my task while watching TV was to sort and straighten the rectangles on 17 of 19 trays.  The tray on top is multicolor and I like the trays to be only one color.  Now that the other trays are straightened, I can work all of these pieces into the correct trays.  That will take another evening of TV shows.  Earlier in the day I sorted the rest of the 10" Kaffe collective fabrics into 3 groups.

Sometimes I cut pieces that I think will work in colorwash but after making a couple wallhangings, I identify some that just never work.  I pulled all of those while sorting.  These are the 2.5" x 4.5" rectangles.

I showed photos of the Yellow Salsify a couple times but I thought I should show you what it looks like after noon.  It only blooms in the early morning and closes up around noon.  This plant first appeared in this spot in the middle of summer last year.  Somehow I never saw the flowers opened up last year and I couldn't identify the plant with my app without a bloom.  I had to wait until this year to see if it was a weed or a plant I wanted to keep.

I like seeing and hearing about your behind the scenes work :). That’s interesting the flowers close at noon. With the flowers closed it does look a lot like a weed.

for me there always seems to be more going on behind the scenes than in front 😄 I know what you mean about posting I've fallen asleep before hitting that button 😄 great success on the tray sorting,!

I always enjoy your behind the scenes posts. So interesting and helpful to learn how you organize and approach that part of your quilting work. It’s also reassuring to hear it is time consuming for you too!

Your Yellow Salsify resembles my yellow day lilies. I might plant more day lilies since they seem to do well out front, where the sun is awful in the afternoons. Hope you enjoy your day!

The way you organize all those pieces is great! I enjoy all your posts. Mine today is a more behind the scenes post too!

I've found that there is much more behind the scenes work than there is machine work. I also struggle with creating a post during those times.

Well, then. Our volunteer plant's flowers stay open all the time so it isn't Yellow Salsify after all. Behind the scenes work is more interesting sometimes than an actual project waiting on the design wall - at least to me.

It is very interesting to see your behind the scenes work. It helps me figure out a new way to do things. Example, I am now learning to sort my fabrics differently. Also to lay them out differently. And the colors in my blocks. Thank you. Keep showing the back of the scenes. We are learning.

It seems that a whole lot of quilting is "behind the scenes" --thanks for sharing your process; I find process videos for setting up a quilt for ease of sewing fascinating- I am not that good at this aspect...sometimes I am 1/2-way through before I "tumble" to a better way to sew things together.
Spitting a bit of rain here today with the sun valiantly trying to come out of the lowering clouds--64 degrees with higher humidity...
I got out and did my weekly food shop this morning after a semi-sleepless night...good thing I had a complete list!!
Hugs, Julierose

I like any post that comes thru. We all have "grunt" work we gotta do to produce our beauties. :)

I know what you mean I almost always have at least one photo from the hand quilting in the evening and some times that is about it - you made progress on something so that is good
