The first task yesterday was pairing the final round of triangles with the square in a square blocks so I can make them into Economy blocks.
There are 5 total combinations of fabrics. The quarter square triangle fabric is the same in every block.
This is one of each of the combinations after sewing but before pressing. I actually sewed 2 of each last night.
The blocks are 16" so this gives a better perspective of their size. The quilt will have 20 blocks.
I tried one more time for a close up shot of the Yellow Salsify and had a bonus bee in the photo. I did some more reading about the plant and found that it is invasive in the US and will choke out other plants. I'm going to dig it out and toss it before the blooms turn to seed like a dandelion. Since it just appeared and I didn't pay for it, I don't feel bad tossing it. The info I found said the taproot is deep (like a dandelion) so I'm going to dig down and hope to get all of it.
I had lunch with my son and my 3 great-grandchildren from the far side of a neighboring state. On the way home we stopped and visited with my sister-in-law, nephew, and brother-in-law. Then the kids came back to my house and I let each of them chose a quilt. I had some other things that I let them choose from, art supplies, etc. They were happy campers when they left. They will head for home today.

Interesting about the Salsify being an invasive plant. Hopefully you’ll be able to get it out, tap root and all, easily.
I guess bees are the only ones who like salsify - lol! Glad you got some time with your family and what a bonus that they got to choose quilts.
Your Economy blocks are so lovely--I like the double triangle setting.
54 here and windy with full sun so far. DH off having blood work and I am recuperating from a not so great night's sleep..
My hands are really sore, so no hand sewing today and most likely tomorrow...[Hello, Helga!!];)))
And so it goes...hugs, Julierose
Salsify seed heads are very amazing.Think dandelions on steroids.
nice to have had more quilts leave the house!!
Those blocks are pretty! So nice to have company. I bet it was fun seeing the kids trying to decide on which quilt they wanted.
Too bad that is a invasive plant. The flower is pretty.
Nice BIG beautiful blocks to be stitching up now . Love the ‘color way’ in these fabrics. Your grandchildren will remember their visit with you forever. Especially with all those quilts under their arms that they will cherish forever.
Beautiful blocks under construction and good to know about the pretty (not so much) yellow flowering plant. LOVE how you were able to spend time with family and share your quilts with them.
Your new quilt is so lovely! You are so talented at putting fabrics and colors together.
