Pastels.....low volume.........

I'm still sewing half rectangle blocks.  I wonder if I need to add yellow.  If so it needs to be a soft yellow like this print.  I haven't made a decision on that yet.

This is how many I have sewn so far.  I haven't pressed them with an iron yet, just fingernail pressing as I go.  I took all of the blocks off the wall and will press this batch today.  I have more to sew and I won't put any back up on the wall until I have all of the combinations sewn.

This ruler is at least 60 years old.  I got it at this store in Chicago when a friend and I were shopping there in the early 1960s.  You won't see a phone number like that anywhere today.

I planted my pot of Pansies on Sunday.  Yesterday morning I see the chipmunk has been un-planting.  It could have been a squirrel but I see a chipmunk on my porch steps often.

I'm so enjoying your low volume pastels! I just acquired a couple similar color pieces of fabric and have been thinking about what is next for them, so it is very timely.

I gave up on flowers on the front porch because the critters unplanted as fast as I planted. I always blamed squirrels, but then also saw crows messing around the sad little plant corpses.

cheers,
Ceci

Where I grew up, the prefix was WO-odward - and I remember how confusing and controversial it was when the system changed and we had to write our phone numbers with all numerals. Fun memory jogger. Looking between your HRT photo and the pansies, I suspect the yellow will fit right into your pastels mix.

sorry the pansies have already been taken apart! I have a spot in my herb planter that I was thinking to fill in with a couple small flowers so far nothing has touched them I hope it stays that way - now if I could just figure out what is nibble those berries in the garden.
That is a large stack of blocks and I love the ruler.

Love how your low volume pastels are looking—so gentle and soft. Maybe the pansies made you think to add yellow. -Roxanne

I don't do pastels very often. So definitely interested how this will turn out.

Your pastels are getting prettier with each addition. A cloud like vision of softness, I can see. Adding yellow will certainly make it sparkle.

Ruler brings back such memories of all the fabric and sewing shops of that era. Chicago was the place to go to find all one needed for sewing supplies, back then. Several years ago I found and bought a wooden hanger in an antique shop with
”Fred Kaufman The American Tailor, Chicago” on the back “Strictly Custom Made” only you and I might know why I bought it. .

I vote for a soft yellow to join these pretty pastels and look forward to seeing the lot of them once you've pressed them!

Among the things I inherited from my parents is a yardstick from Soukup's Hardware, Elmhurst, IL, western suburb of Chicago, that has a similar phone number as your ruler.

Hugs!

Pale yellow will be lovely. I also have a very old ruler, a Rabone, made in England, and the number 1167. My Dad had this, no doubt, when he was doing woodwork. It has brass tips at each end and in the centre, and it is a 3 feet one that folds into 4.I hope you had a good rest after all that digging.

The yellow may be a little tricky. Hope you can find one that enhances the pastels. Great ruler!

I’m wondering how you cut your HRTs? Did you use your Accuquilt Studio cutter or did you use a specialty ruler? Accuquilt is no longer making the HRT die for the GO! machine that I have.

I love knowing the origin of the phone numbers...my childhood one in Livonia MI was GArfield, my grandmother's was FRanklin. Now I am curious what the 67 was for in my later years. On the island I live on in Maine, people in the know give only 4 digits for their phone...which you could still dial here when we first came in 2010. I don't know if that is still true.
