Empty design wall problem.......................

Yesterday morning I was looking for things to take to the thrift shop and that ended up being a dusting project.  I have said before, I dust twice a year whether it needs it or not.  Guess what, it needed it.

Then I headed to the studio and the bare design wall was getting to me.  I had a pile of small Kaffe scraps that needed to go in the project box, and I found it to be overflowing.  I took out all of the parts that were sewn and put them on the design wall, mostly for a little color in the room.

The box was still overflowing even with all of that removed.  I found another empty project box and put some of the strips and chunks in it, and now I'll take all of these pieces down in a couple days and they will go into the new box.  There would be too much thinking to start making that mess into a quilt top.  I plan on cutting some more pieces of batting today to match with waiting quilt tops.

As the sun was getting lower in the sky yesterday I noticed a lot of the Evening Primrose was blooming so I grabbed my camera and went outside.

One little group had the sun hitting it directly and they were glowing.  These plants bloom in the morning and the flowers start closing up in the evening.

This one was just starting to close up.

I had to check out the volunteer tomato plants and there are at least 3 in this group.  I will need to get out there soon and plant them away from each other.  I saw one more volunteer coming up in another area of this raised bed.

The neighbor girl told me she likes cucumbers so I planted 4 seeds in a pot.  This is the largest of two of them that have broken through to the surface.

The moon was pretty last night.  Overnight tonight will be the full moon.  A couple months ago when the moon was at this height it was 3 houses north of here.  I think about the sun moving to different positions as we get into summer but not being a science nerd, I didn't think about the moon being in a different place too.

Loving your design wall! It's not a mess at all, looks like the beginning of a fantastic scrappy quilt! I wish my parts box had such fun parts!

Haha on your dusting theory - I support it. ;) I like the look of your parts box contents! Those evening primroses are really pretty. How nice of you to plant seeds for your neighbor. I keep forgetting that I could do that in the one pot I have in my garden, thanks for the reminder. :D

I am 100% behind your dusting rule :) I hear you about the parts needing too much thinking but I wonder if you took down all but the ones with the shark teeth and onions b&w’s, if they wouldn’t need much thinking?

I agree with your dusting rule! I dust when I need to and that is not often! I love the block, bits, and pieces on the design wall! It reminds me of an Anna WIlliams quilt. I would just start sewing it together and not worry about matching up seams or if colors matched too much or clashed. Add some pieces of fabric to make sections fit together and just go improv piecing on it. I know that is not the way you work, so you do what you do best and let them marinate for a while longer. Eventually they will get pulled back out of the box and be worked into a quilt. I know what you mean about having a blank design wall. I think that is why I wanted to get started on another quilt.

being surrounded by tall trees it is hard to see anything at night here. after you mentioned your tomatoes I remembered my volunteer pumpkin I should remember to check it and see what is happening with it. I think I will put a couple pieces of wood or something around it so Mike will remember it is there - the grass is getting long and will need to be cut again.

You may not be ready to design a quilt using those Kaffe pieces, but they certainly provided a cheery display on your design wall. You had an empty project box???? I haven't seen one of those in a while.

I can see a quilt on that design wall too. Besides, I spent the day sorting scraps, orphan blocks and finding some I forgot that I made/had. Now for some sleep!

I'm due for another thrift store cleanout too but that always sets off some other chore! I just cleaned all my 34 windows. I'm not in the mood for dusting on top of that! LOL!
