I looked through my stash of batiks for more of the background fabric to make a border, but didn't find any. I found this other batik that looks good with it. The table runner top is about 12" x 36" right now so I think a 1" finished border will be enough.

I got all of the Tilda squares up on the design wall yesterday afternoon. You might notice there is a slight diagonal pattern of the fabrics. I had 11 piles of 16 squares. 10 of them were all alike and 1 of them had 2 sets of 8 which I alternated. I placed the 11 piles in what I thought was a pleasing arrangement and then, not knowing how high to start on the design wall, I started at the bottom of the first left column. After I placed the first 11 in order, I started with #1 again until I had 16 pieces on the wall. Then continuing on, in sequence I started at the bottom of the second column. I continued until I had all of the pieces on the wall. This offset each fabric up one space 2 columns over. When the pieces were all up there, I just had to decide if I liked the regimented look or would fiddle with it into a random layout. I decided I liked it and started sewing it together. (This was probably more than you wanted to know about my process.)In preparation for rain late tonight and into tomorrow, I added some fertilizer to the pots with tomato plants and filled the bird feeders.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you actually do get rain. You jumped right on the Tilda triangles…..they look lovely. I had to laugh because starting from the bottom is so logical but I’ve never thought to that.
WOW! I love the Tilda quilt!! It looks like it could be a patriotic quilt as it gives off a red, white and bluish vibe. I have a large collection of Tilda that I have not dived into yet....this will be a start for me! I love reading about how you decided to set up the quilt... it helps to know your tips and tricks to make all the quilts you do!!! Thank you!!
It's fine to fuss with placement but it's even better to know when to quit fussing with it.
Love the Tilda arrangement! I think your placement is perfect. Keeping my fingers crossed you get that rain.
I am assuming you want the rain so good luck. We might get an accumulation of 1.5-2 inches this week I think it starts today. The quilt is looking great.
The Tilda piece is really looking great, Wanda;)))
Yesterday I put in 3 tomato plants--two reg. size and one cherry;
they are all "Patio" varieties for pot planting...So far they haven't drooped at all...that was the extent of my activities for the day...
66 here at 8:15 a.m.-- each day a bit warmer.
Good luck getting that rainfall...I hope to sit out on our deck lawn chair and get some Vit. D.. hugs, Julierose
That batik looks good as a narrow border. I like the splattering of the blue triangles throughout the Tilda top.
I always enjoy learning about your process. It never occurred to me to start at the bottom of the design wall, but that makes sense.
Process notes are much appreciated - that's how we learn new tricks! Over the next three days we are supposed to get "some" rain - time will tell. Everything is gloriously green right now but the dry season will be here before we know it and those lush greens will fade to struggling greens.
I was surprised to see your grand Tilda layout this morning… your progress always amazes me. Rain ? What’s that ? We have been in a serious drought most of our winter and especially this spring. Our high temps have been like July so far ~ so above our normal temps for May and now we’ll see what June brings us.
No, I want to know/read all that thought processing of quilt designing. I feel like a healthy sponge, absorbing. Thanks ❣️
