Back to the borders........
The class went well yesterday. I did a lot of cutting and pressing for the students so they could keep sewing. We meet again next week. Last night I added more strips to the strip piecing I started a couple nights ago. It was 22" wide so I sliced it into 4 pieces a little over 4" wide. I cut one near the center and added some new pieces so it wouldn't look just like the one on the other side. I have these 2 sewn on. It is about 33" wide now.
I took the other 2 pieces and put them up on the wall trying to decide whether to do this border like I had done all of the rest or.........
should I center them and add a square of fabric in the corners. I think maybe squares in the corners might detract from the center. I thought about making the corners in wedges radiating out from the inside corner (like a fan).
The chiropractor took X-rays and didn't see any new stress/compression fractures on my mother's spine. She is in a lot of pain and even had their lunch delivered to their apt. instead of walking down to the dining room at noon. We will be going 3 times a week for several weeks for the some extra treatment that helped her last time she was in such pain.
We got more rain (all day) yesterday so the perennials that we planted at my granddaughter's should be happy. Now we need a day to dry out.

I love the progression on your quilt! Very stunning. I think that I agree about the squares in the corner. It would be fun to see a picture on your design wall with the squares just to get a look at both versions. Just got my batik scraps in the mail and love them. Also went shopping for batik backing yesterday. Love what I picked and posted this morning too. Glad to hear the class went well. It is always fun to teach. Good that your mom doesn't have a fracture, but sorry to hear she is still in a lot of pain. Hopefully that goes away soon.

I'm sorry your mother is in so much pain, but I trust the treatments will help her again this time.
Wedges in the corners sound interesting and I'd like to see how they are done. Continuing the regular piano keys would be great -- but plain squares don't sound right to me.

This quilt looks great! I'm with you on squares in the corners.. might detract from the center. I really love this.

This quilt is evolving nicely.
I don't like the idea of squares either. Wonder how the fans look like.
I hope your mother will be better soon.

I like the idea of fanning out the corners on this border. It is so awesome!
For my mother, they needed an MRI to find the stress fracture (the xray didn't show it) and then did an injection of a cement like material. She finally got some pain relief. Hope your mom gets better soon.

Hi Wanda,
I vote for radiating fan corners. That would add to the "Time tunnel" illusion.

I have enjoyed the progression of the quilt. Reading how and why you do certain things helps me look at my work with better eyes. Thank you.
I'm sorry your mother is in so much pain. I hope the therapy will help her.
I live in Florida, wish you could send some of your rain to us, my poor yard is crunchy.

Your quilt is coming along great! And I think you could get away with squares in the corners if you picked just the right fabric...maybe something kind of busy in darker values.

Sorry about your Mom. My mother is having to drive my StepFather 3 times a week for therapy over a bad hip. The poor guy has had so many heath problems and surgeries. Getting older is not for the faint of heart.

I am enjoying your progression posts of this piece. Every border is so complimentary. Love it! I know whatever you decide to do with the corners will be perfect.

Do you think that your area is in a 10 year cycle period of moisture? You sure have had enough snow and rain.

Sorry to hear about your Mom's back. Hope the chiropractor can make her pain go away! Love seeing the progression on your quilt. I agree with you about the corner squares - could be distracting. Just do what you think is best. I'm sure it will be stunning no matter what you do.

I love the tunnel look of this! I hope you post the different corner ideas so we can see them. I would love to see how a fan corner would look!

I sympathise with your mother, with her extreme back pain. I suffer from back pain, & it seems to be bad now that the cold weather is here.
Love the progress of your new top.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother's back problems. Backs can be very debilitating so I hope the treatments will give her the relief that she needs.

I’m enjoying watching the progress of your quilt top. I’m thinking that the squares in the corner may be too abrupt a change but I like the idea of the wedge radiating out like a fan. That had some nice design possibilities.

I'm sorry to hear that your Mother is in such pain, that has to be so hard for her. I've been watching your blog, but have not been able to comment because the word verification was not displaying. I installed IE8 and now this morning it's working finally.
