I cut several flannel fabrics into 4.5" x 8.5" rectangles and some into 2.5" x 8.5" rectangles. I left a few of the darker pieces in it and added more medium value rectangles. It flows much better now. I sewed a lot of the triangles into squares last night and made more blocks. I have to make two more blocks with 3 vertical strips of triangles to finish the layout. This will be 40" x 40" when sewn together, a nice baby quilt size.
I have one more baby quilt size top that I sewed last year and didn't get it quilted yet.
It got up to 44 yesterday so I gathered all of the things I had ready to take to the thrift shop and delivered them. Then I got two small packages ready to mail and went to the post office and did another errand. When I got home I filled the bird feeders. The snow has melted almost everywhere except by the north side of the house. Now the temperature is going to start dropping with -5 predicted for Monday morning.

yes i agree....much more pleasant to the eye...
Looking good! our weather's bouncing back & forth again with another winter storm coming through in the next few days
Oh yes, I love the rectangles addition Wanda;))) I don't know how you come up with so many of these ideas...but they are great!!
33 here this morning--the last of the warmer weather for a while...
Family gathering this afternoon, hoping to get the "dark roses" fabric into blocks to give a trial run around the poms. Seeing all 4 in place makes a huge difference...

I like your layout for the flannel pieces. Glad you were able to get out and run errands before the bitter cold.
I like how you changed the quilt top it looks great. I probably need to run some errands today or tomorrow before it gets really cold again. The only snow left now is what is in the garden - what is sitting on the mulch is taking longer to melt for some reason.
You have so many great looking flannel woven’s and prints making this quilt so unique, I love the blue with dots you’ve added also. Compliments the golden browns perfectly.
Your winter temps swing and sway like ours this year. Although we still have a 3” ground cover of snow.
This layout is WONDERFUL - such a great way to highlight those HSTs without having to make a whole quilt top of them.
Wow, the deep freeze is coming, yikes! The new rectangles do the trick…..it’s looking warm and cozy vs dark and gloomy.
Yes, I like the new rectangles better too. We also are expecting wintery weather to move in tomorrow night.
I agree the more narrow rectangles in that rich blue add a lot to this quilt! What a great idea you had!
So far, the lowest predicted night we'll have in the coming week is 8*F. Time will tell! Happily, our 51*F today has brought long awaited meltdown of the snow we got 10 days ago!
Hugs!
I love your large assortment of flannels. We also have no snow cover and we will have below zero temperatures. That is not good for water pipes.
Oh yes! Loving this setting! Looks very cozy already.:)
Nice! The single columns are a good addition.
The blue is a really nice addition to this quilt.
I can see it. Thanks for sharing your process Wanda.

It's beautiful. Love the different combo's by skip counting fours. (I'm a substitute teacher that uses the word skip count A LOT!). Happy sewing. I love the columns of solid scraps.
