I just can't believe what one of my backyard neighbors is doing. Every night he is still shooting off fireworks. Did he buy a bunch after the 4th of July or does he still have leftovers? I'm getting a little irritated. I don't know if they can start a fire but it is awfully dry here. (AND fireworks are illegal in IL to start with).

Check and see if your town/county/state has a fireworks ordinance. Ours does and you can only do fireworks on the holiday, day before and day after. Really helps 4th of July noisy nights and terrfied dogs! At the very least, call the police or fire dept and ask about open fire ordinances.
I like it too. I love fireworks but not every night in dry weather. We have barking dogs!!
Here I know people will let fireworks off a couple days before and after the holiday and sometimes there is one that must have a lot and it goes on for a week or so but never this long. With dry weather it might not be legal for them to continue to do so.
The neighbor is a nuisance. At this point, it is a quality of life thing... It interrupts your life quality with the unexpected BANG!!! I agree with the others call the city and see if there is a fireworks ordinance if so, call the police and file a complaint. That should bring an end to it. Hope it stops soon regardless of how.
The border fabric is perfect for the quilt- just finishes it off and ennhances the play of colors and patterns in the bowties. The only way I like fireworks is over water. This past 4th, so many people took fireworks into their own hands in my neighborhood that the smoke was choking. One person dumped a box of lit fireworks in our street and it was terrifying to see stuff flying over cars and houses not knowing what was in there.
Last night was like the 4th of July all over again. It made me so angry because we are drier than dust and one spark could set the whole area on fire. I don't know how people can be so stupid.
I love your fabric choices for the double borders....and that the top and bottom will be wider--nice thinking on this one...
We've had a few instances of late fireworks, but not too bad here thank heavens...I'd call your Town Hall and/or police to check on it.
So annoying and possible dangerous too.

I am with everyone else - call the non-911 fire department line, the police, city hall, or your council person. I am sure the fire department would be very interested in what was going on; those guys don't mess around!
What others said - check if there's local or state ordinance on when fireworks can be shot off. If not, check with county or local fire department if there's a burning ban, I'd think that includes fireworks. They are no different, other than the noise, from an open burn pile. If embers hit the wrong thing absolutely they can cause fires.

When I was a kid, my folks & I had gone to their friends' home to watch 4th of July fireworks in a local park. While we were in an area technically deemed "safe", a breeze came up and some embers landed on the roof of this house, starting a small blaze. MUCH excitement and many firefighters ensued; I was disappointed not to be allowed closer to all the action. The roof fire was extinguished with only minor damage — our friends could return to their home, thankfully. Now, this was an official fireworks display, with safeguards in place and fire equipment standing by. And yet a few small stray embers set off a potentially dangerous blaze; it was only thanks to the quick response that damage wasn't much greater. My take: your fire department needs to be aware this is happening, at minimum. They might send someone out for a "friendly chat" with the offending neighbor.
On a happier topic, I love the borders! And I'm just now noticing that the grouping of smaller light bow-tie blocks (upper left) produces a snails' tail-reminiscent effects... quite cool!
The border colours are a good choice after the thinner inner border. Maybe your next quilt could be called *fireworks* hehe :)

I love your choice for a border! That jumble fabric is one of my favorites. It's amazing how something so simple in it's design can be so fantastic!
I was looking through my Kaffe "Simple Shapes, Spectacular Quilts" book last night and there's a bow tie quilt in there, made from all reds and pinks. It's really a great quilt to showcase how lights and darks play together.
They did a border by switching the placement of the lights and darks. REminded me of your small area where you did that.
I'm thinking this might be in my future, but I might increase the size of the blocks a little.
And fireworks! You sound like all my dog-owning friends who get really tired of fireworks really fast. Maybe your neighbors think they're providing a valuable entertainment experience for you each night.
Yes, the border fabric is just right, especially with a narrower inner border of the b/w dot. Fireworks are annoying and in this dry spell (dare I say drought) they're dangereous.
The border fabric and inner border fabric are perfect. I agree with most of your other readers. Call the police. Or the fire department.
Your selection of borders always frames and adds to the beauty of your quilt tops. And this one is a great example of just that !
I too would call the fire dept. and report your neighbor. Living in a mountain valley with summer forest fires is nothing to take lightly. We are coping with the smoke from CA., OR., WA., and OR. right now and it is so thick I could not take my daily walk this a.m. Even in Sandwich IL. a tiny spark could cause major problems !
