New die arrived..........

I had to try out the new half rectangle die and make sure it worked properly.  If you cut all of your fabrics face up you get the  ones on the left.  If you cut all fabrics face down you get the ones on the right.

Some patterns will use the rectangles cut both ways and some need them all alike.  On the left, all alike, the other 2 samples cut both ways, fabrics face up and face down on the die.

These are cut both ways.  You have to know what your pattern will be before you know which way to cut them.  I had fun just cutting up some Kaffe collective prints in a layer cake (10" squares) to play.

This is the pattern on the package.  It still needs 4 corner squares 6" finished size added to the block.  All half rectangles are cut fabric face up.  I'm going to have fun with this die.

Last night I started sewing the Hattie's Choice quilt top together.  I have all of the seams sewn one direction and one row sewn the other way, 6 seams to go.

All of the snow has finally melted.  I was surprised how fast the 3' tall snowbank along the driveway melted but then it has been in the high 50s and mid 60s for a few days.

So happy you got your new die. But probably not as happy as you :-) I like the new star pattern that came with it. Can't wait to see what you come up with

I love that star made with the HRTs and HSTs -- I don't remember that one or at the time I bought mine I wasn't ready to see the possibilities in it. Thanks and HOORAY for its safe arrival.

You are going to have fun with this one. Lots of possibilities and with your fabrics stash, some spectacular quilts await. We get one mor day of 60's (maybe near 70), but rain is due, so I'm going out soon to do what I can in the garden.

Woo Hoo! on the new die. I'm glad it all worked out, especially since you are already having fun with it.

We'll not discuss how long I had to look at wonky star to realize the short points are HSTs plus a square, not corners sewn on a rectangle or chisel piece.

Lesson of the day: it really makes a difference which way the fabric is facing when you cut it (right side up or down for each layer). Sure increases the options for different blocks. Huge lesson for Accuquilt company....especially if any of your readers get inspired to buy this die and let the company know they decided to buy it based on your demos.....

I am so glad you are having fun with your die. In reading your explanation about fabric facing up, facing down, left, right - I thought my head was going to explode! LOL!! That is a lot to think about and I can see it would be easy to make a mistake. Love the star block especially with the fabrics you picked. I am sure you will have the whole rhythm of making the correct pieces in no time!

Wonderful that you got the new die. Now make sure to pitch that bad die so that you don’t grab it by mistake. Knowing me I would have trouble getting rid of it but that is what should happen if you don’t want to be frustrated.

Thank you for sharing your rectangle die play with us, you have just pushed me over the fence and I will buy an Accuquilt Cutter. Now which one, hmmm! I am looking forward to seeing Hatties's Choice come together. I admit I was not as tickled as you with the first few blocks, but loved watching you make lovely.

Glad you got the new die!!

The half-rectangle is "to die" for! I think back to the early Martingale rotary-cutting patterns that included the "bi-rangle." I bought the ruler but I never made a set of blocks let along an entire quilt featuring bias rectangles. Your die will make cutting MUCH easier.
