I did this binding by machine too, a narrow blanket stitch. This quilt measures 63" x 78" so it is a skimpy twin size, generous lap size.
My computer class just cancelled because of the winds and drifting predicted for this morning. The students travel over 20 miles to get here so I didn't want them to get stuck. We didn't get the howling wind they predicted and the snow is a little heavier than they thought so the worst scenario didn't happen.

It has become obvious to me that YOU are the one who can answer this question for me. What is a simple pattern I can use for an all-batik quilt that will allow me NOT to lose the designs on some of the fabrics? I have been collecting batiks for awhile and want to make myself a lap-sized (or a bit larger) all-batik quilt and am stuck for pattern ideas. I need EASY, though. Any ideas?
Your 'turning 20' quilt turned out great! I love batiks!
Is the blanket stitch done on the front? (did you turn over the backing fabric and then do your blanket stitch??)
Linda E in AZ (where it is dry, dry, dry and warm)

It is a separate binding sewn on the back, flipped to the front and blanket stitched from the front.

Funny, I just started a small watercolour painting following the same geometrical rules as this quilt! I love it.
All of the bright colors are GREAT! I love batiks and have been collecting for awhile...not sure just what they will be come yet. The blanket stitch is perfect;) The sun is out here today, too. That is one thing that I still haven't gotten used to...I lived most of my life in So. Calif. and when the sun is out it's supposed to be warm...not always the case here;) Computer class??? Please explain. Happy stitching;)
Your quilting is beautiful and I love the blanket stitch binding. I plan on using that on my next quilt.
I do not know about you, but I am ready for a January thaw!!!!
I do see the sun! I live in Marengo, not too far north of you! Your quilt is beautiful!
That is so rich and warm looking!! Love the idea of the blanket stitch for the binding. I think I'll try that on the next doll's quilt.
That's the nicest turning twenty I've ever seen! I'm usually not a big fan of the pattern, but yours is gorgeous.
That is a lot of snow! A child would have a lot of fun playing. Your binding looks terrific and a very good idea.
I really like the blanket stitched binding on this happy quilt!
Well now, Miss Wanda ~ that is one SPECTACULAR Turning Twenty quilt (looks waaaaay better than the one I made with soft, faded Moda fabrics back when I first started making quilts)... GORGEOUS!
And that sunshine and blue skies photo is beautiful... it is in the 30s now, dropping to the 10s by Friday here (the daffodils will be chilly, to say the least).
The turning 20 and the snow photo complement each other so well -- they both sparkle in an icy blue way!
"Turning Twenty" is another of your wonderful 'exuberant colorful' quilts.
I too love the blanket stitched finish, it is PERFECT !
So how many years has the midwest been in this moisture cycle of winter snow storms ? I remember last year you had snow also.. But do not remember that last year was as great as this winter season has been. 7-10 years of moisture ~ then the same for drought. Just wondered how many more years you can expect this much snow.

Doesn't the sun just make you feel great? It really perks you up. However, your Turning Twenty quilt also really perked me up. I love all the batiks that you used. Really pretty and I love the way you did the binding as well. Genius and beautiful!
My, that's a lot of snow! I like the colors in the Turning 20 quilt.
Hi Wanda,
That is a very sunny looking quilt, much prettier than the pattern cover would indicate (I used to think it looked mish-mashy and ordinary -- not anymore!)
We were glad to see the sun for a couple of hours, too.

The adult in me sees the snow pile and knows what a mess it's going to be as it all melts down. the kid in me says SNOW FORT! ;)
Love the turning twenty quilt, looks perfect for snuggling up under on a grey day.
That blanket stitched binding is brilliant! I am sooooooo stealing err.. borrowing that idea!
And yours is probably the first Turning 20 quilt I've seen that's made me consider one day maybe doing one. It's gorgeous.
