Yesterday I had a new visitor to my backyard. I usually see one of these a few times every winter. You'll have to click on the picture to see him.
After I took this next picture, he went up to a spot on the tree where there was a snow glob and he would peck it and then tip his head back, over and over. I guess that was his water supply for the day.
I'm still working on the binding. I have about 45" to go so hopefully I will have a picture of a completed quilt tomorrow.

we have those woodpeckers here too. I used to see them in IL and called them Flickers or Meadowlarks. Not sure if either name is correct. They are the big guys at our feeder.
Let me be the first to say the Black and White quilt top is really terrific.
I really think the black and white quilt needs a thin inner border of a bright. Looks too dull otherwise.

What a pretty bird! In the summer we get a redheaded woodpecker who hangs out on the roof garden. I love watching him pecking away.
Wow -- what a graphic quilt! I like it but have to admit I'd be tempted to bind it in a bright colour.

I love the black and white. Personally I would probably add color, but since your choice is not to I would suggest a nice plain black border large enought to contain all that movement in the middle. Bird is definitely a Flicker. I see them occasionally in my yard during the summer.

I love seeing all the different birds you have, which are so different to ours. We had a rare visit by a woodpecker last October - vivid green with a red head.
I like your quilt and while I would be tempted to add a bright thin border, I think leaving it as it is would let it pick up the colours from the room. Perhaps a complimentary cushion could add the colour?
And oh yes, I will keep the starlings safe! LOL

What is the name of your pinwheel variation block? The secondary designs are so cool & the dark pinwheels POP nicely! (Makes me want to run over & cut some more of my B&W prints!)
I almost didn't believe that the black and white top was one of yours! I always expect lots of colour from you. The flicker and it is, indeed, a Northern Flicker, is beautiful. That little patch of red on his head makes me want to somehow add a red border to the black and white top.
Is a flicker a kind of woodpecker? Maybe you could add some cardinal red to your black and white... or maybe just the cardinal!

I agree it is an interesting coincidence that the photo of your flicker was indeed mostly black and white with just a touch of red and posted on your black and white quilt day. Have you considered embellishment on your quilt? Perhaps red beads or quilting in red? There are many ways to add just a touch of red.

You have handsome visitors to your yard--I almost never see woodpeckers, only hear them. It's beautiful. I very much like the b&w quilt, but I have to admit, I just want to plop just a bit of color somewhere in it!! :)
Black and White quilt top: Had to enlarge this one, it is even more striking to see the detail of each of the prints. Anxious to see what you will add in the blank area's.
Love your cardinal, we do not have them here in the valley. BUT we have 100's of flickers, we put out owl decoys and keep the suet cage filled year round to keep the flickers from drilling holes in our siding.
