That ever so slow binding
I'm still working on the binding on the one I quilted Sunday. Here is a full picture after I got the border on last Aug. I'm using a batik for the binding and it is very tight woven fabric, so it will take awhile to get it hand sewn on the back. It is the same fabric as the first border.
I finally saw a cardinal out at the feeding ground. I haven't seen a very big variety of birds this year. The juncos are plentiful, a few nuthatches and woodpeckers, sparrows and chickadees now and then. I haven't even seen many starlings this year. The bunny comes every night and cleans up under the 3 feeders too.
We aren't going to have a January thaw but they promised us a February one. I hope they are right.

Love, love, love your quilt! It's too doggone cold for the birdies at your house! I saw cardinals the other day before this last cold front. We have ice on the bridges and overpasses today and supposed to get worse.
Our birds have been eating so much that I have been filling up the bird feeder every day. Today we have too much ice and I won't be able to walk over to the feeder to fill it! I will have to walk carefully to the end of the deck and throw out cupfulls on the ground so they can eat.

Really like your quilt Wanda! Very rich and vibrant. We took part in the national bird count last Saturday. In one hour we had 3 blackbirds, a robin, sparrows and dunnocks and 14 starlings! So the starlings are all this side of the pond! Take care.
Our birds seem to be missing for awhile now. They have cleared away a lot of the trees and bushes to build new houses, so that may be part of it, but I think mostly it's due to the extreme winter we are having this year in our area. LOVE that quilt you are doing right now. Batiks are always SO gorgeous, aren't they???

We haven't seen a cardinal this winter at all. Guess it's too cold here for them this year. I usually see a couple flitting about on the roof garden in the winter, but not this year.
Keep working on the binding. That quilt looks stunning! I love it when cardinals come to my feeder. Today I heard a lot of commotion outside. Crows seemed to be going crazy. I looked out and saw two red-tailed hawks being harrassed by the crows. There were no birds at my feeder. Guess they were all hiding! It's not that I want the hawks to go hungry. It's just that I don't want to see them take out one of 'my' birds!

I love seeing your cardinal. We have none here in the West. They were my mom's favorite bird. We've had lots of junkos, nuthatches, chickadees. We even saw another eagle the other day!
We had snow this morning, but now it's turned to rain and the pond is melting yet again. The ducks are happier! As I look out the window, I see "our" lone seagull standing on the lake, so it's still frozen some.

The quilt looks fantastic! You are definitely inspiring me to get back to batiks. I do love working with them because they press so well, sew so well, pretty much do everything right.
I love the bird pictures. When my kids were little we used to sit by the window and identify the birds. It was like a game.
Tonight we are getting lots of snow. They are calling for 6 -9 inches! Bracing for more shoveling.
Loved the quilt last August ~ love it now, too (especially with that binding!)...
We have cardinals ~ two pairs. I keep the feeder filled for them (although other birds enjoy the seed, too)

I've been out of the loop for several days, but it looks as if the snow is thinner there. Here, in Maryland, it is snowing now, with predictions of ice over-night. As I write, I'm hearing what sounds like little pieces of ice hitting the surface outside. I'm fearing the worst in the morning, but hoping they're wrong. Your amaryllis blooms are beautiful. I have one that was Derek's but it has not bloomed for the second year. I must have it in the wrong place. Glad to see that you have such a thing of brightness and cheer during these cold months.

We have juncos, goldfinches, mourning doves, nuthatches, titmice and the occasional chickadee and blue jay. The cardinals must have gone further south this year.

Beautiful quilt. It is a great feeling to finish another quilt. I have some quilted but not bound quilts around here....there's always something to work on, which I guess is good?!?
I love batiks and blue is my favorite.
They are hard to hand sew though.
