Still life in studio

I did a lot of cutting yesterday, and cleaning for my art quilters group that will come tomorrow. I didn't do any sewing but I was in and out of the studio. I looked at this pile on my sewing cabinet and thought it had great composition. It was all tossed there haphazardly but some how it was pleasing to look at. Remember I like visual stimulation. Out of sight, out of mind, I need it where I can see it. Here is one more photo of Jack Frost's work. Remember the "jet trails" yesterday? Well he filled them in to be lacy spikes.
Two more cold days and then we are promised we will get above freezing.

It is a visual composition that works well. Order, disorder, vertical lines, horizontal lines, checkerboard, light to dark values. I'm sorry to hear that you're still having such cold weather there. Here it was 32 degrees this morning, which must seem warm to folks in your area of the country.

I was reading once about organization strategies, and the author said that first you have to know whether you need to be organized with everything in sight, or organized with everything out of sight. I guess you're the former!

yes to keeping your fabric & scraps where you can see them. I do not have enough space and have all my scraps neatly put in boxes - but I can't see in it and tend to forget about them until recently when I almost had to force myself to open boxes and look and see what was there and start to use some!!

"STILL LIFE" love it ! It may have been tossed 'haphazardly' as you said but you ended up with a abstract even better than a 'Pollock'. I like the way your fabrics are so neatly stacked below the basket... then with the scraps just tumbling free. I agree it really is quite a fun photo.

And Jack Frost... none of us can compare.

I agree about visual stimulation. I have some things put away in storage boxes, but a lot of it out where I can see it. And for a couple big open wall spaces that don't have quilts on them yet, I have fabric yardage hanging up. *S*

Love the still life! The scrap basket reminded me of my first batik quilt! Your blog & projects are very inspiring...love all the color!

Having fabric out where you can see it makes it SO much more fun!! We don't have the space so the majority of my stash is in plastic boxes.

It has been snowing here since about this time yesterday. Unbelievable -- first we get frozen in by phenomenally low temperatures and now we're getting snowed in! What a winter this is turning out to be!

Some of those fabrics looks so familiar. I know I have some. I agree, you have to have it within sight. It serves as great inspiration. Today it warmed up a bit here and snowed about 6 inches. I have to say that I am officially tired of winter.

That's why I use clear storage boxes ~ I am a visual person, too.

It is wonderful here today - just above freezing and SUNSHINE. Hope it comes your way quickly!

You've certainly gotten a lot done Wanda. I haven't yet finished any of my January goals though I've made progress on all of them. I've got lots to do before the end of the month! blessings, marlene

I love your 'haphazzard' composition. It's very inspirational. Every time I clean up I lose something!

Nice still life.
Are you going to leave your composition out for your art quilters to admire?
Warm weather is only a dream right now.
