After trimming the backing for the large Crooked Cobblestone wall hanging, I chose backing for 4 more pieces. I was glad I had a large enough flannel piece for the flannel baby quilt.
These are the backs for the three smaller pieces. I hope to get these all quilted and trimmed today.
Since these are all small pieces I used flower head pins to baste them. The flower heads lay nice and flat.
We didn't get any ice early in the day yesterday but I think there might be a thin layer that occurred in the evening. My Sunday newspapers will remain on the driveway until I know it's safe to walk out to get them.

Oh, that soda backing is fun! And you’re hoping to get all three small pieces done today, wow. I just finished a top from Halloween flannel leftover from a friends’s project…..sure wish I could find a whole flannel piece for backing like you did, lol. It was another non-event weather alert for us. Some snow pellets followed by rain, thank goodness. Glad you are wise and will wait to retrieve your papers. Stay warm!
Those backings are all looking like great choices--nice that you had enough flannel for the baby quilt;)))
28 here and we got 4+" of plowable snow overnight--our plow guy just came and did our driveway and front walk...
Yes, hold off walking on possible slippery surfaces for sure!! We will be in for the day here--watching the deer high-footing it through the snow covered lawn...;))) hugs, Julierose
your backing all look great - we might get a thin layer of ice on Wednesday so I'm glad even though it is 100% chance of rain on Tuesday when I have to drive to Little Rock for an appointment that it is rain and not ice that day. All week will be cold here
Thanks for sharing your process, Wanda. Re: large-scale (your post yesterday) -- yes, some of those prints are good only for backs, or perhaps as a panel-type center.
It is a a great selection of backings you showed today, all so fitting for each quilt top. Your wonderful stash always amazes me.
Love the various backing fabrics you've chosen and I wish you well on your plan to quilt 3 of the small quilts today. What fun!
I also applaud your wisdom in avoiding the ice. Long ago when I was a nurse in the ER of a Memphis hospital, almost all of our patients on an icy day had a chief complaint of "slipped and fell on ice, hurting _________ (fill in the blank). Better to stay indoors. Our turn for snow and ice will come again mid-week.
Hugs!
Even for small projects, I considering quilting three in one day a lot! But, if anyone can do it, I know you can. Very pretty backing fabrics.
How do you quilt those small ones? Do you put them on the longarm or just on your domestic?
