A friend and I were chatting yesterday about previous quilts I have made with multi-size blocks. This Kaffe Collective one is from way back in 2013. It is 2 layouts I tried and I sewed the one on the right. I would like to do another Bear Paw quilt some day and maybe try a variation of the layout on the left.
In 2016 I experimented with different size batik triangles and made two quilt tops of my own original design. There are 4 different size triangles in both of these. I really enjoyed making them.
This flannel quilt finished in 2015 has inserted New York Beauty blocks.
And then there are the latest two made of Kaffe Collective fabrics. The one on the right has a different style block inserted and the one on the left is multi-size of the same block. I won't rule out making some tiny 4.5" blocks or 6" blocks of the Churn Dash. Also 12" blocks could be fitted in if I go for all of the sizes.
Thanks Roxanne for prompting me to do this post. I really didn't accomplish anything yesterday to photograph and a storm came through around 9 so I had my machine unplugged.

I love seeing these all together. I like how you’ve done this in different ways over a long period of time. If I had to choose a favorite it would be the blue batik 16-patch—it’s a signature block for you and you keep stretching its creative boundaries. Batik triangles also really fun—it always makes me think of petit point.
I can't believe it but it looks like I may be able to leave a comment via my iPad ! It literally has been months that GOOGLE tells me I need a new browser ?... I have used my desk top computer off and on and no problem with that.
What wonderful display of quilts today. Your artistic, creative designing quilts is supreme no matter what year you designed them.

Just gorgeous multi-size quilts...having those bigger size blocks inserted really moves your eyes around the whole quilt so nicely.

Gorgeous! Although I have to admit that I love the bear paw the most. I just can't resist a big paw with little paws!
Thanks for this post! Using different sizes in the same quilt really livens them up and your examples really show that. I think that I will be taking a cue from you and doing this myself. After I get the current 16-patch blocks made, I have another stack of strips that will yield a much bigger block. I was going to make 9 patch blocks, but now I am going to make some big 16 patch blocks and mix in the smaller 16 patch blocks.
Wanted to let you know that this post has stuck with me since I first saw it. I spent some time today scrolling back through time to find it again. I'm still (slowly) striving to use this concept in my own work. Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilts with us. You continue to inspire me.
