I didn't make any masks on Wednesday and yesterday I was actually feeling a little guilty. There are so many people who don't sew who need a mask. Patty A had a great idea of cutting 1/2" elastic up the middle to make 1/4" elastic. It works on some kinds and not on others. I have some that it did work on so now I have an ample supply of elastic again.
I continued working on the masks until they were all done. I had groceries delivered yesterday from my local family owned grocery store and there was a note in the bag thanking me for the face masks I gave to the store employees.

that is nice to be thanked for the masks you made - my daughter thanked me for making masks for some of her coworkers but I received no note from any of them - I know they didn't ask me personally but it would have been nice.
I love the star - my daughter in WI sent me a video showing it snowing yesterday - just a shower - but pretty - she went hiking a couple days before in a t-shirt
I’ve been cutting elastic like that. I was worried it might come apart, so I do a big zigzag down the cut side. Hopefully they don’t fall apart.

Wanda: talking to a neighbor's visitor about the masks (she on the sidewalk in front of the porch, I on the porch) she told me about her sewing friends cutting bungee cords for elastic. Cut the ends using a rotary cutter or strong scissors. Then carefully slice the length of the cord using cutter, seam ripper, or fine scissors. Peel back the cord's casing to reveal a large "bunch" of slim elastics, perhaps 2 dozen or more. I tried this, but attacked a used cord and so produced stretched elastics. But desperate times breed desperate measures, and I'll try again with an unused cord.
What a thoughtful grocery helper, Wanda! I didn't have any elastic (until a friend sent some in a swap package) and cut half-inch strips from a leftover piece of t-shirt to make straps for my first attempts at a mask-making.

I found elastic! I don't know why I didn't think of it before but you can get it on ebay! Just make sure you look at where it is being shipped from. I am getting some from PA. There was one post for some in ILL. It appears to be a lot out there still.
I was overjoyed to learn that you had a kit available of the stunning colorwash fabrics. Created with my eight-year-old granddaughter who has an eye for color and loved working with your lovely suggestions. I quilted it with hearts and bound it with aqua dragonflies. She chose a beautiful deep blue night sky with flecks of gold that reminded her of stars for the backing. I shipped it overnight by UPS as an Easter surprise along with masks and egg money for their hunt. Sadly, a week ago yesterday the precious parcel was delivered to the wrong house and left on the porch. Efforts to retrieve the treasured quilt have been unsuccessful according to Corporate UPS. We've decided that if the gifts are not found and returned we'll make another quilt together.
