7 batik panels, which one?..............

Luckily I had just looked at these panels recently and knew where they were.  We had them at a quilt shop I worked at and when they went on sale half price I bought several of them.

#1 zebras on orange

#2 three masks

#3 elephants

#4 zebra landscape

#5 packed zebras

#6 two masks

#7 rainbow zebras

The panels are in the 17" - 19" size range and the spot they need to fill is 20" x 20" so a border would be needed to make them fit.  Some would need light borders and other dark borders so the look will change when they are added.
I have a couple favorites, how about you?

With such a busy background I thought a calmer middle might be better, so I'm voting for #1 & #6 - I love when you ask our opinions :)

It is really hard to choose—these are all beautiful with your blocks!

All are good but 1&6 are really great !

Number 6 would be my pick.

Whoa, now this is a hard choice--I am personally drawn to No, 1 and No.2...#1--I like that space around the image in contrast to the busy cq blocks; and #2 the masks appear to be looking at those cq blocks...
this will be gorgeous no matter which panel you choose...

I am jealous...I remember these but could not afford them at the time. The tall look wonderful. Love the elephants!

#1 is my favorite, but #2 would be an appropriate remembrance of the time you made it.

I like #2 & 4 I have never seen these

I think 2, 4 or 7 are my favorites. If I had to pick one, I think I would pick 4. I love the layout and the fun crazy pieced blocks!

Jane Dallmeyer said...

I vote for number 7. I really like the crazy pieced stuff, but this group holds the record for the loudest ever!!

Gene Black said...

I like 7, 6, 3 and 1 -in that order. I don't think 2 works as it gets a bit lost in with the piecing. (at least on the computer.) And #4 just seems like it is unrelated to the pieced fabrics.

#1 & #2 are my favorites.

I love 1, 3 and 6 with your scrappy blocks.

#4 and #1 work at a glance for me. I agree that it needs to be a focus and not blend in too much. Thanks for sharing.

The masks and ellies have an Indonesian feel to them, if you are wanting to stay "African" the zebras say that more... I love the rainbow zebras, they say rural African Emboirderys to me... or the zebras on the orange/yellow. They also look like what I saw in the local Artisan Markets in South Africa.

#1 or #6, with #6 being appropriate for the current world situation.

Barbara Black said...

1 or 6–the masks are perfect for this time.

Mary said...

My favorites and #1 and #7. All are interesting.

Debbie said...

#2 and #4 are my favorites! As much as I like the #1 panel it just doesn't get enhanced this way. But the crazy blocks make those masks looks great.

Chris said...

Hello! #2 because the panel is fabulous and harmonizes with the colors of your blocks so well; and #4 because it is zebras (which makes me think of you) and I also love the lime green color on this panel. Fun choices!

What a nice selection! I like #1 Zebras, and #6 two masks. But I'm very partial to #3 the elephants. You may need some time to ponder!

#6 and #1 because they contrast more with the crazy pieced background. I love the concept!

1, 3, or 5 would be my choice. The solid calms the chaos and the black seems like a good fit.

Deb said...

I like #1 & #6... They all are so wonderful though.

Especially like #2,3,7 for the center, as they seem to enhance the blocks.

Zebra on orange is most beautiful.

Wanda, #2, three masks, looks like it belongs in this quilt to me? Just beautiful!

Zebra on orange is my favorite

Numbers 2 and 6, especially 2. Masks mark the moment--and moments to come.

I immediately liked the zebras on orange. My second choice would be #6. I like the gold background. But as you say that will change with some border.

Becky said...

It is interesting as I scroll through the pictures how the different centers pull out the colors in the Crazy blocks. I really like what 1 and 2 do to the other blocks, but the gold masks also pull those colors from the crazy blocks. It will be interesting to see what you pick!

LG said...

wow, quite a diversity of opinions! I like 2 and 3 the best, but I'm sure you could make any of them work!

Donna G said...

These are wonderful. My choices in order of favorite would be 2,4,7, or 8. I like the way they blend with the border, as opposed to contrast.

Siggy Bee said...

I like #3 or #6. Beautiful center blocks.

Kaaren said...

I love #1 because of it's color edge and the fact that the image floats int he frame, making it a great focal point. As someone said above, some of them are so busy that the "frame" and the interior don't get along so well.

Two masks (#6)

7 or 1.... gorgeous any way I look at it!

JJM said...

1, 3, & 4 and even more ! Todays post is what I'd call "Super Exuberant Color" (^._.^) Love your African crazy pieced blocks.

p.s. if this goes through, i'm using my desk top to comment, still no success getting through on my iPad.

Of course your decision will be perfect but I really like #1 and #2. Both seem to become part of the blocks and fit in beautifully. Amazing work yet again!

Fabric Fanatic said...

#2 The Masks look as if they are pieced and they fit in with the colors so well. That gets my vote. Great choices you have.

I like #2 the best. The colors of the panel reach out to the other colors in the blocks and the values are similar in the panel and the blocks. Yep, I really like the three masks.

My first choice is two masks. Second choice is the elephants.

Ruth said...

I love the way this is coming together. My favorite panel is 2 because all the fabrics in the other blocks seam to flow out from the colors in that one. Next would be 3 and then 7. I am pretty sure that which ever one you use it will be the one that is perfect.

Cathy said...

I love the crazy-pieced African blocks, and I think I’ll borrow your idea and do that with some of my African scraps. My favorite is #2, which I think would look really sharp bordered in black to fit the opening. Plus, as Libby said in her comment, it would be a subtle reference to these times.

The Zebra landscape -- love it!!

Jenny said...

I would choose 2, 3 or 7. Whatever you use will look wonderful, I'm sure. Perhaps you could make a quilt out of the remaining small panels sometime?

Love all things African. For this, I'd pick #2 and #3, in that order.

I like #1,3 & 4 the best. I did this recently with strip blocks around a center panel for a baby quilt. Your blog is part of my eveyr night computer time before bed. Thank you for your inspiration.

# 6 The background carries over into the blocks nicely.

I think the three masks (#3) looks most natural with the crazy blocks, as if the blocks were made for it.

Lots of great choices. I like the elephants the best, but I am partial to them. Then the #1 zebras. I also like the faces 2 and 6. The "matting" of 6 would calm the piece down a bit.

I'm playing catch-up this evening, I am only just reading posts from the past four days!!
I like two of the zebra panels: 1. Zebras on Orange and 2.Zebra Landscape

3 masks and rainbow zebras are my choice. Cant wait to see what you choose.

I think I like 1 and 7. I woul expect 1 to be your favorite!

I like number 1 and number 2 best...maybe because they pick up the colors in the blocks? I had to go back and forth through the pcitures a bunch of times, the panels are something else!

I will look forward to seeing what you choose!
