I started filling this vase with scraps in Jan. 2008. It was filled pretty quickly and I have had it on display on the bookcase in my kitchen. When I was cutting the 100 yards of batiks into 2.5" strips I started to pile the little trimmings on top and kept going as long as it didn't topple over. I really like it and see it as art. I'm sure some non-sewers will disagree with me, but they don't need to visit my kitchen then. If you want to see the whole picture of the quilt, here is where I posted it. The quilting shows up so much better in this picture.
I started another project with the 2.5" strips of yellow that I cut when cutting my yellow quilt. I already had a lot of greens in my bin of strips. I have no idea what I am making out of them. 
I decided I am going to finish the yellow quilt without a border. I have sewn the seam in the back and hopefully I'll start quilting it today.Last night Dad wanted to go shopping for a bedspread. He didn't like the feel of the quilt on the bed. I'm sure he doesn't remember that I made it and gave it to them. I brought it home and washed it and will take a picture because I don't have a digital picture of it. It is all blues and the calicoes from the time period (late 80's) faded quite a bit.

I like your vase a lot. Looks like a great art project. I'd like to make one, and add beads and embellishments, too! And the quilt behind your scrap art vase is wonderful!

I would say it is a good sign that your Dad is interested enough to want to change his surroundings as he makes his life alone. Don't take it personally about the quilt.

You know, that quilt on your dad's bed may just be feeling "too heavy" now....I know my dad is like that. In fact, the one quilt I made for him is out on his living room couch so he can LOOK at it......*S*
Love your jar of colour! When I was trimming down my diamonds, I saved all the bits and put them in a jar -- it was like looking at a jar of fabric Smarties!

The jar of snippets is perfect! I would like to visit your kitchen! And going to get your Dad a bedspread is so like my Dad. I've made multiple table runners for them since Christmas, all bright and seasonal, but every time I go there, the Christmas one is on the table. I guess that is the one he likes.
I love that jar too. Once I piled my trimmings into a blob on the table, then realized it looked like a bird's nest... used a knuckle to put a dent in the middle, and kept if for a long time. If I could figure out how to stiffen/preserve it, I'd still have that cute bird's nest, likely with some chocolate eggs in it.
I love your jar and would like nothing more than to sit in your kitchen and admire your art! Love that red wall behind that incredible quilt! Sorry about your Dad. Glad your quilt is home though. Would love to see a photo of it! Are you using Thangles to make those half square triangles? Do you like them?
Your scrap art is definitely art! You have it displayed so beautifully.
Enjoy the shopping trip for the bedspread . . . like others have said, it is nothing personal. Only an expression of a feeling (and don't we all have those from time to time).
I have a jar in my studio that contains the tiny corner trimmings from the first triangle quilt I ever made - no one else would understand, but it brings me fond memories).

I have an old metal fruit bowl on my sideboard that holds scraps. I do have to clean it out periodically because it fills quickly.
Glad that you went without the border. My suggestion would have been for a smaller checkerboard, but no border will be great, very bold.
It is definitely art to me! What a fantastic idea to use the clippings for this. The quilt is wonderful too. I had just started blogging then and had not found your blog just yet. I am looking forward to seeing a picture of the quilt you made for your Dad. Good luck looking for a new spread.
I agree with LC. I would like to preserve some of the scrap happenings in my sewing space. Sometimes when scraps get piled up here and there, they are like art -so colorful and vibrant. When I stack pieces of fabric together, I find that I like the looks of it so much that I don't want to disturb that stack when I need to get a piece of the fabric for my project! I like the way the colors play together.

Your kitchen wall quilt is gorgeous. The arty fabric vase is pretty as well; I'm afraid my cat would take those fabric strips as a challenge and promptly move them to his food dish (he is a Collector of Things). But I can enjoy looking at yours!

Maybe your dad also needs something he didn't share with your mom to help him with being alone, though he probably didn't remember you made it as he wouldn't have wanted you to be hurt.

Your fabric vase is lovely Wanda- so fun to see all the snippets of fabric.
I went to tidy my sewing area yesterday and found lots of old and newer friends in the stash. I should do it more often - it might prevent me from adding more when I have so much beautiful fabric already. I discovered lots of beautiful batiks waiting to be used.
I am sure your father meant no offense. The quilt probably holds some bittersweet memories for him just now.
Bring it home for you to love and enjoy- all your work is so beautiful that I am sure it is another beauty - faded or not. You know that it was well used and treasured for many years by them both.
I am sure you will create something really lovely with the yellow and green pieces.
