Voting time!
I opened up the 2 final contenders and put them under the edges of the blocks. I like them both.
Here it is with just the blue.
and here it is with just the rosy one.
Which one do you prefer?

Well, I'll be first! I like the blue. Somehow, it brings highlights out of the other blocks, while the rose leaves the quilt flatter.

Just my opinion! I really, really enjoy your blog - your use of color is really a joy to behold!

I'm torn. I like them both. The rosey color calms it, the blue seems to pop a little more. Which one do you like best?

Hmmm.... I am not a blue person, but I think that I prefer the blue. I am not sure why, but maybe it just brightens up the quilt a little.

I think it would be interesting to use both of them. The blue for the top and right side and the red for the bottom and left side. It's the opposite of what you've shown, but you have a block on the top and on the right with a red background. If you'll only use one of them, then it should be the blue, because of the blocks with the red background.

Sara said...

BLUE. Same reasons: it makes the other colors show up more. The rose makesa it flat.

Vicki W said...

I like them both a lot but I probably lean a little toward the blue.

I guess I'm the oddball - I prefer the rosy one.

Elaine said...

I'm odd, too. I like the rosy one, too. Which is odd; I don't typically like that color much. But it's not as jarring, to me -- it frames it without demanding as much attention as the blue does.

Carmen Rose said...

Both, plus more? That's no help I'm sure but I think it will be lovely whatever you choose because you are so good with color.

Mary on Lake Pulaski said...

Definitely blue! It just makes the quilt happy and bright. The rose is too close to the color of two of the background blocks and they stand out too much along side of the rose.

Michelle said...

Blue! I immediately chose blue as it makes the baskets pop and has more of a framing effect on the quilt. The value of the blue is what makes it work -- the rose is to close in value to the baskets.

I like them both, together, like in the top picture.

I choose blue, blue, blue! The rose color is blah.

Anne said...

I think using both is a nice way to go - two adjacent borders blue and two rose.

I like the blue better, it brightens up the quilt and makes the other colors pop out more.

What a tough one - either would work wonderfully. Personal preference though - I think I'd go with the blue. The blue seems to bring out more of the blue going on in the rest of the quilt, whereas the rosy one doesn't pull as much rose out of the middle. If that makes sense...

Cathi said...

The blue really makes everything work. They're both pretty but the blue is definitely my preference. I think it makes the quilt brighter and gives the colours in the blocks a real boost.

The blue gives a great contrast where the rosy blends in. I think the blue looks better. What a gorgeous quilt!

I vote for the blue.

I likek them both, but I like the blue best.

I think the blue....really makes it come alive!!

Blue, blue, blue, blue, blue!!!!!!

Beena said...

Hmmmm. I was so sure the rosier one was the better choice, until seeing it all laid out like this. But I always go for blues. I think if the rose was a brighter rose, and not so muted, it would work. In the close up shots, it looks brighter and the blue looks duller and darker. So I'm at a loss. From these pictures, I'd say blue. From the closeups, I'd say the roier one.

Julie S said...

I like the rosy fabric; it makes the quilt so soft and feminine. It blends so well. The blue looks great, but it is bolder. I guess you need to know if you want soft or bold. Me? I'd go soft and rosy!

Mary said...

i think it sparkles more with the blue

Isa said...

Hi
I would say blue,
But I usually prefer blue over red,

Marloes said...

HI, this is a difficulot choce, I like them both. You might be able to use both so you have a 'cold' side and a 'warm' side. If you dont want to do so, I would go with the color which is the best for where you intend to use this quilt. Or for whom the quilt is intended, I would use their favo color. Good luck choosing!

I definitively prefer the blue one ...

Hi Wanda, my vote is for the blue. I think the baskets pop more with the picture with the blue. My eye is drawn to the rosy color rather than the baskets in the other picture.

Hello Wanda,

I prefer the BLUE one !!!
Hugs,

What about a lighter one? Both make the quilt heavy which it wasn't before.

Pat said...

I think the blue is a better contrast and I agree with whoever said the rose blends in too much...and the baskets don't stand out with the rose the way they should, in my opinion.

Quiltbug said...

I'm another oddball. I find the blue cold. I love warm colours so I have to go for the rosy one.

Blue, for sure.

I'm for blue. I seem to be in the majority there.

I prefer the blue. It provides a bit more contrast, and seems to tie in with the rows of diagonal squares better. But, you know me, I'm all about contrast.

blue hands down
tones down the blue inside the quilt
otherwise I think they are popping out way too much
just MHO

In the photo the blue sets off the rest of the quilt better.
In real life it could be different.

Blue, definitely.

Before I read all the comments, I knew Blue would be the more popular response because Blue is always a more popular response ;-)

I actually would like the rose better if it were a bit darker. I think it's a question of value for me–I tend to finish most of my quilts with a darker border, so between your two choices, I'd choose blue . . . or I'd realize that I like the blue because it's darker and go looking for a darker rose. I really love this quilt and have enjoyed watching you put it together.

blue. gut feeling.

Definitely the blue!

Vicky F said...

I'm leaning toward the blue.
The blue has a little pink in it, too.
The pink/rosy one would balance the quilt top better if it had a little blue.

I didn't read any other the other comments so as not to be pulled one way or the other. My response is - I guess it depends on which color family you want to pull out.

Wasn't that helpful? *L*

Better late than never. I like the blue too, because of what it does to the other colors. The rose pulls my eye off to it whereas the blue keeps my eye in the quilt and looking at the entire piece. Sometimes a photo can fool the eye, so your eye will know!

Jean said...

I like the blue too as it makes a nice backdrop for the baskets.

I thought I would prefer the rosy fabric but I must say I think the blue does more for the quilt. Great blog!

Mary P said...

I like the rosy one--and normally blue is my favorite color. I think it really depends what feeling you are trying to evoke with the quilt. My mother in law voted for the blue one, when I showed her.

Susan said...

What a tough choice! In the photo I guess I prefer the blue, and I'm normally not a blue person. Whichever you choose, you can't go wrong with such a beautiful quilt.

Dorothy said...

I'm odd too, I guess. I FAR prefer the rose (and I don't even LIKE that colour!) The blue looks too border-y, the rose looks like part of the top.

Heidi said...

I like the rosy one!

Valerie said...

If it was mine I would make the setting triangles out of the same lighter fabrics that you used in the blocks, then add the blue border. But given your two choices, I would pick the blue.

Judi said...

I like them both but I think the blue pops better and I would use it but it is your quilt.

Anonymous said...

The blue keeps the eye moving across the quilt, while the rosy seems to attract my eye to it!
The rosy also touches the rosiest background and that makes that side feel heavy. The blue fabric has more "life" or sparkle.
I just love it when you ask our opinions. It really isn't very often anyone really wants an opinion :) Teresa
