I needed more light colored cobblestone blocks for my in progress project.
The light was perfect yesterday morning to get a close shot of the Christmas cactus flower.
Here is another shot. They are so delicate and beautiful.
The snow is gone and it got up to the mid 40's yesterday afternoon. I hear the storm is headed south. I hope it doesn't freeze too many flowering trees and other blooms.

I don't mind washing my kitchen floor but I do it on my hands and knees and because it's 16' X22', it takes me a while... Here in Toronto I quilt at a friend's house once a week. Last night I noticed her tulips and daffodils were coming up out of the ground but were being buried with snow mixed with rain - icy snow (in other words.) It is still coming down slowly in little flakes this morning. Ahhhh, spring. I love your pincushions since mine are old too. My childen (now in their mid twenties to mid thirties) bought me some at a school fair and they look like hats - made from a margerine lid and a cat food tin. I have three but one is used most because it is stuffed better. They too are filled with lint and a lot of buried needles. I guess I should clean them to see what I find. Your cactus is gorgeous - it must love its location. It's great that you document the blooms.
My kitchen floor needs a good cleaning too, but I think I will save that for another day. Think I will clean my pincushions instead. Mine are full of the bent pins that need cleaning out....just like you did.
My Christmas cactus is blooming too. Mine is the same color as yours. I love those bright, pretty blooms.
I hope you came to your senses by now and quit cleaning....I too have bent pins that when I grab one to use, I stick right back in because I don't want to just throw in the trash by itself.....sounds like a good job for Tuesday night tv watching.
The cactus is beautiful. Does it bloom somewhere in the world at Chrismas (maybe somewhere warmer?)?
I am just like you in that I always take multiple photos of my Christmas cactus when they bloom. They are so beautiful! smg

As I type this, little tiny snow flakes are drifting by the window.
Old tic tac boxes work great to store old pins and needles in until you throw the whole thing away. Wig.

I use a small jar or tin with a lid (tea, yeast, etc.) marked "discarded sharp stuff" and when it is full, it will go to the recycle center. We have a big one that takes everything from small metal collections (smile) to old computers. I find it hard to toss dull sewing machine needles because they still "look" good!!
Used medicine bottles are also good for storing sharp items until disposal.
Not to set an age on me or whatever - do you remember the little slots in the medicine cabinets for razor blades. As a kid, I used to wonder where the blades went.

have 2 blooms. My favorite pin cushions are from my
grand daughters when I taught them to sew ,also one
from a student years ago.It is circles, inside of each other and is knitted. Thanks for the memories.jmh

I, too, use to wonder where those razor blades went in the medicine cabinets...till our cabinet rusted out. My so called christmas cactus has been blooming almost continuely since thanksgiving. I just think when they are happy in a certain window, they give back with the flowers. Besides Miracle -gro potting soil , I occasionaly put a banana peel or slice of apple into the soil.
Wanda, you make quilts like someone is going to take your sewing machines away forever.You are amazing and fast.
I use the air cleaner can to blow off all the little threads from my pin cushions into a bag. Works for me.

Isn't it amazing what makes you get the urge to clean. And yes, I understand the feeling of procrastination. When you finally get around to doing that chore you wonder why it took you so long to do it! Your Christmas cactus is looking fabulous. I just love that color, it is my favorite.

I love your cactus too, but I think it is an EASTER cactus and not the Christmas. Only thinking that cause it is blooming now, Easter week.
Love the pincushions too. I have a collection and was sad to think you were considering throwing them away. I have the one I made my mom in Girl Scouts as a 10 year old, too. I plan to start a blog, maybe even later today, and maybe I can get a photo of it right off.

My Christmas Cactus bloomed late this year also -- in March. I am always amazed at the beauty of the blooms on this plant. Yours is gorgeous!
