I ended up making 30 blocks instead of 25 and this is the first 6 that were completed.
I kept matching fabrics and decided that 40" x 48" is still a good baby size quilt.
I decided on this layout of the blocks...until I was ready to sew. Then I changed blocks 3 and 4 in column 1 with each other. I sewed it together last night and will take its photo after pressing.
This is the fabric I thought about using on the back.
It's finally starting to cool off a little but the humidity hasn't dropped enough. By Sunday it is supposed to go down to a wonderful level.

Your plaid quilt is quite lovely and that backing is perfect for it! Another win for Wanda!
I've been hearing we're predicted to have a sudden and snowy winter. Didn't give it much merit ... Until I saw about a million starlings gathered up And doing that weird flocking thing they do during migration. Today the wind was actually cold, but when the sun came out, we had our inferno again. Such strange weather ... Even for Chicago.
I'm also amazed at how much rain we've been getting, especially compared to you. Not that far away, yet we've had regular rains including nights with thunderstorms. I'm sure were still behind in our precipitation, but our lawns certainly haven't been needing to be watered.
Looking forward to a nice weekend and seeing what's next on your sewing agenda!
Colleen
Those plaids are gorgeous! I love the backing you are considering. We are also anticipating cooler temps by next week. So far this August is "mild" compared to those we have experienced the past few years.
I love how this came together, Wanda; and that backing couldn't be more perfect...great work!!
57 this morning after overnight rain totaling 1.07"--finally an appreciable amt of rain here!!!
I only have 3 little blocks left to quilt on Christmas Ojos ;))) this has been a labor of love--it stood by me throughout this year of worries etc etc...handwork really calms me...sun is now peeking out...and it is quite windy 11-15 mph here...
Hugs, Julierose
Terrific backing choice for a very handsome quilt top.
I like all those plaids and see why you kept going. The new book you mentioned in last post looks interesting. Thanks for sharing the title.
I see why you changed 3 & 4 in column one. And now it’s perfect like your backing for this cozy warm quilt for baby boy.
Taht will be cute backing for that quilt. It has been cooler here, but like you still quite humid. What gets me lately is that when I head out for work it is not as light as it has been. I hate that they days are getting shorter already.
I love the bright plaids….they make this quilt sing and the backing is a perfect choice. I’m glad you got some rain and not the high winds. We are having such lovely weather in the mountains in central CA that I almost feel guilty (ha, first I typed quilty ;-) ). We will head back to PA here in a couple of weeks and are hoping most of the hot weather will be gone for the year.
I love woven fabrics! Lovely quilt and backing! -Roxanne
Wonderful arrangement of squares and love, love, love the backing fabric you've selected!! This quilt will make some little someone (and parents) so very happy!
It's to be 76*F for our high today and that is delightful. Oddly, in this usually hottest month, in the next week the warmest temperature expected is 86*F but no one is complaining!
Hugs!
LOVE this; top, back, and plaid/bright theme! My start on blue, white, yellow UFO 9P from ten(?) yrs ago, along w/my current color&white blocks seem so 'safe'. Which they are. But, I have added in more 'exuberant' fabric to the mix since following the blogs of you and other emancipated quilters. Thanks for the encouragement to enjoy playing and creating.
