My 3 favorites from 2019 that I am keeping............
I mentioned in my 2019 yearly recap post yesterday that I had three favorites that I am keeping. Several people wanted to know which 3 they were.
First is this red/pink crazy pieced quilt. It was SO MUCH work to make this one. I only averaged a few blocks each sewing session. I started out with my scraps and eventually had to cut off of yardage to finish it. It has a lot of fabric in it since there are so many seams and also a huge variety of different fabrics. I know I would never make another one like it and the red/coral/pink colors are in the top group of colors that I love.
The second one is this colorwash which is taller than me. I have never kept a colorwash made with printed quilting cottons that has the bright colors in it. I had sold all the rest of them. This one is made with rectangles instead of squares which I really like. It has over 300 different fabrics in it.
The third one is the African courthouse steps log cabin quilt that I just finished. It has such a large selection of different African fabrics in it which makes it unique. I used the last piece I had of many of the fabrics.
I was looking back through the decade of quilts I have finished and there are some favorites in that bunch too. I try to make enough quilts specifically for sharing and gifting so I don't have to give away my favorites.

Those are three fabulous quilts so I totally understand why you need to keep those. I might have to take a cue from you and make some crazy pieced blocks like your pink and red one to use up all those scraps I have.

I love your red quilt. I also made one last year using colourful scraps and blue sashing but not as nice looking as yours. I want to make more this year using strips and/or scraps as I so enjoyed the process :)

They are all spectacular, and one does have to hang onto a few of the favorites, right?? I love the red batik so much I'm making my own... You're so right about the blocks being labor-intensive and only being able to do a few at a time. I have about 30 completed (since August... though obviously have interspersed this with numerous other projects) so there's a long way yet to go. But I'm loving the look!

I like your philosophy in Thursday's post of starting as many new projects as you want. I've been feeling that I need to finish some things before starting anything new, but there are so many temptations out there every day and I have so much fabric to use.

I didn't realize you did the colorwash in rectangles until you pointed it out. That method seems to me to be more manageable - I just might attempt a colorwash.
Please do a 10 year retrospective of your favorites. That would be utterly fantastic for those of us who have been your long-time fans.
I love that your favorites are the ones that have the most different fabrics in them! Shows that you’re really a fabric lover! You will continue to appreciate, remember, and love the many different fabrics you put into those quilts. I can definitely identify with that. I’m always hoping others will notice and like the many different fabrics I put into the quilts I make, but the fact probably is that they will never be appreciated nearly as much by anybody else.
I'd die happy if I had managed to create three such wonderful quilts! I love all three, though I've loved many others of yours as well. As to the many different fabrics used, I think only another quilter could appreciate them as much. I don't personally know another quilter, so when I use my favorites in a quilt, or go to that much work, I'll keep them to enjoy myself! (I make over 100 quilt tops and crochet-edged fleece blankets each year to donate, so I don't feel greedy if I keep one or two.) susanprincess at att dot net
