In 2018 I bought the red 40th year anniversary Olfa rotary cutter but I never opened it. You know, saving it for later. Yesterday was the day to open it. Next to it is the 25th anniversary silver Olfa rotary cutter, my favorite one that I keep in my main floor studio.
Here are closeups of the labels on the 2 cutters. The silver one is reflecting light so it isn't showing its true color. I have always had several rotary cutters. I know some people only have one. I have 2 studio spaces so I have one of each of the 45mm and the 60mm in each studio. I also always had one 45mm in my traveling bag when I was teaching classes. I was gifted one of the new style that has the easier blade changing.
I put the red one to good use cutting the segments for the Marcia Derse fabric 16 patch blocks.
I'm thinking blocks cut from this Marcia Derse panel might look good with the 16 patch blocks. I sewed 24 of the blocks last night before the storms started and then unplugged the machine.
The Zinfin Doll Hydrangea blooms are starting to open up now.
This one has the most petals showing. We got 1" of rain overnight into yesterday morning. Now more storms last night will add to the total. Our grass is so brown already so this rain is really welcome.
The black-eyed Susan plants are filling out. Unfortunately the weeds are filling out too.

It's always a treat to cut with a new rotary cutter--I wish they stayed as sharp for a longer while. Lovely strips for the 16 patches..
My hydrangea is just setting its little buds--
Rain here overnight and overcast this morning at 68 degrees...
And another rainy weekend --we've had something like19 in a row!!
Hoping for some sunshine...hugs, Julierose
My goodness that cutter is so pretty! It's good you are now using it. You are making good progress on sewing those strips together and getting them prepped. The hydrangea is so pretty. I am going to have to cut back the Shasta daisies out front since they have faded already. I need to check to see if any of those California Poppy seeds are coming up. Always something going on in our gardens!
The red is the one I mainly use, I also have aqua, yellow, and purple, as well as one for "pinking". Don't know why I think I need more than one, I just like them in different colors - ha! The hydrangeas are beautiful. So glad you got some good rain.
Olfa is my favorite cutter and I didn't know they even made special editions!
I use the Martelli ergo rotary cutters and love them. I have one in each studio (45mm) and only one of the 60 as I use it less often. And your Zinfin Doll hydrangea is so pretty - turns out that is the same plant two of our neighbors have (theirs are stunning right now).
I was excited just to get a new seam ripper the other day😄 the flowers are looking good, I've got a few of mine planted & more are waiting
I've always used Olfa yellow cutters but surely I must branch out! Martelli ergo is new to me so need to look at it.
Our whitish yellow "Lemonade" hydrangea is in bloom and is so pretty but I wish we'd planted the Mop-head variety that turns pink, blue, or purple according to the pH of the soil.
Hugs!
I bought that red anniversary cutter, too, though I opened the package a couple of years ago. What I noted right away is how much lighter-weight it is than the older cutter. Last night's storm wasn't as bad as predicted, just well-needed rain.
Olfa cutters so very interesting ~ I’ve got the old, old yellow one and was not aware they even produced anniversary ones. Of course I’m not into producing on a daily basis like you and the other quilters. Your strata's look so intriguing.
I have several rotary cutters too and had hoped that I would get used to my newest one which is ergonomic but I really don't care for it all that much. Because of the way the handle curves I have a harder time seeing where the blade is. I guess you adjust as you get used to using it but I keep grabbing my old one instead.
Oh, my! What self control you have! I opened mine the minute it got here and I've been cutting with it ever since. Because RED! LOL
I think you are right about the MD panel. It should really look good with those sixteen patches.
Had to smile about your cutter comments and 'saving one for later'. My dad was always saving stuff for 'good'. ;)
I also have those same Olfa cutters and also the quick change aqua one. (maybe 2) I cut a LOT with them both for my business and lots of scrap quilting.
I have bought other rotary cutters, but I always go back to my Olfa one that automatically closes the blade. For me, it is always the safest. I have the 45 and the bigger one.
