I sewed 8 new combinations of Marcia Derse fabric yesterday morning. There are 2 of each, so 16 new blocks.
I sewed and cut the next batch of stratas and when cutting into segments I made one miscut. There is exactly enough for 2 blocks with only a small cut leftover.
I was able to salvage all but one combination by sewing the left over piece onto the miscut piece and recutting into 2.5". On the left, the seam sewn, center, the seam pressed open, and right, a trimmed strip ready to use. The 6th strata didn't have enough left at the end to sew on.
This is the 6 new combinations sewn yesterday afternoon.
When I was checking my porch pots, I noticed the Zinfin Doll Hydrangea blooms are starting to turn pink.
I also noticed a new bloom farther down the garden. I had a plant last year that had these flowers on it and it didn't come up this year. Now I know it self seeds since this one is across the row of pavers from where the original plant was. There is another plant coming up in a crack between pavers that might be another of these. I pulled out several handfuls of weeds but there are SO MANY more in this flower bed.

Weeding, esp'ly in this heat and humidity, is so challenging...take care not to over do!!
Great save on those off cuts...the strata of MD fabrics are looking
good;)))
71 here at 6 a.m.--will be dashing in and out of my AC car to do food shopping this morning...it is just way too hot!! Hoping for a nice cold front to sweep down over us tomorrow...

The hydrangea blooms are beautiful! That is a pretty mystery plant.
Those leftover bits came to the rescue! It's always good not to empty the trash until the piecing is done! LOL!! I love it when you find plants in places that are a surprise. My weeds are getting out of hand, but since it is suppose to be cooler this weekend I will have to get up early and give them the boot!
What a productive sewing day you had! I'm glad you were able to sew the cut off bits back onto your pieced strips and I know the dismay of miscuts. What a bother but a good solution.
Love your hydrangea and mystery flower!
Hugs!
Beautiful blocks (and fabrics). The hydrangeas here are struggling with the too-high heat indexes - yours are looking so pretty!
Your fabrics have a lovely soft Autumn feeling to them. Looking forward to them on your design board.
I like that brown and reddish fabric that you put together they play well with each other
Catching up on posts and see you got the last miscut fixed. Nice you were able to use the cut offs for all but one. We have left our yard and flowers in the care of the deer through September. They have already munched on our bright green potato vines!
