Cleaning up.................

There is a 4 drawer chest in my studio that had a pile 2 feet high on it.  I knew what some of the things were, like this selection of batiks I chose more than a year ago.

One of things that surprised me were the 2 trays of 2.5" plaid and stripe squares, yarn dyed woven fabrics.

I wondered where this partially finished Cherrywood fabric piece was.  There are a couple more areas to quilt and then trim and bind.  It is small, about 14" square.

There was also a notebook with photos from my very first sampler quilt class in 1976.  I recognize some of the ladies but not all of them.  I think there were 12 or 13 students.

There was one pile of indecision.  These pieces are sitting on top of a project box so the pile is only about 5" tall and some of the batik fabrics will go back on a shelf.  The chair should be cleaned off early this morning.  This is only the tip of the iceberg of places that need cleaning up.  I am chasing the impossible dream that I could actually have a neat and clean house.

Amazing what you find when you start a "clean up" isn't it?
I need to go through all my stash once again just to keep track of what I actually have in there!!
41 here this early morning--I hear that the cold snap is due this coming Monday--but for now it has been really warm...
Enjoy your "finds";))) hugs, Julierose

To dream the impossible dream :). Every time I clean and organize I lose things. I used to know where right where they were!

I like to think in terms of "ER" as in neatER and cleanER.

I like Ceci's comment! Will you do a 2024 year round up post?

after my husband died I foolishly brought a machine upstairs to be able to sew in actual daylight!! Now the first floor looks like my lower level a sewing mess! Threads and scraps abound. silly old lady!!

I'm afraid to start going through the boxes at times but I'm glad I never got into saving every quilting magazine I ever bought and over the years got rid of somethings - one of these days though I have some things in the sewing room to pass on or get rid of in a donation box

Every time I attempt to clean up I find something that makes me look for something to go with it that leads to planning a whole quilt and starting a new UFO box. I've decided cleaning is overrated.

At this point, nearly all the "piles" in my studios are very small or already dealt with. As I start spending more time in the rooms, that will NOT last. What fun to find those two trays of squares - such gorgeous colors.

I have the same impossible dream, but realize it is unlikely to ever happen. In the meantime, I really do need to clear away some of the piles on my work table that keep creeping onto my rotary cutting mat.

Fun to see your year end piles of fun. And life goes goes on ~ even with ‘stuff’ we know we should clean up it can be done tomorrow or the next or the next. 😉

Having an organized home is also a dream of mine. I'll see how much progress I can make in 2025

The tubs and piles of scraps from the QOV group are making me twitchy. As are the rest of the fabrics that no longer fit on the shelves or little FQ bins. I'm thinking a batch of 16-patch quilts are coming up. We'll not discuss the garment fabrics and notions situation. Or the tools, books, patterns, and notebooks...

While working, my imagined time and energy for projects far outpaced my reality. Also, apparently I had a LOT of plans for retirement hobbies when I bought so much while still working! :-)

I think we all have piles everywhere! I got about halfway through my mess. I had some help straightening up a couple of things and they helped me get rid of a few things. My dyeing and fabric paint supplies went from five boxes to three. Then I accidentally dumped one of my floss boxes and they helped me sort all of that and get rid of stuff I will never use. Sounds like you are making progress, but it is so much more fun to create than clean!

Don't you dare make a New Year's resolution. A tidy house is a sign of a life misspent. Keep on making a beautiful mess and beautiful things.
