I couldn't decide whether the strips should run horizontal or vertical so I made one of each. I was making these to use up the 1.5" and 2.5" Kaffe strips that I had cut several years ago. I did end up having to cut a few new strips to have enough for both quilts. The spacer strips in the quilt on the left are in there because I needed a little more width and I didn't want to make any more blocks. I'm not sure which quilt I like best because I like both of them. These are made with all Kaffe collective fabrics. Maybe I should use a different group of fabrics and make another one.
I spent a few hours yesterday cutting and piecing the backs for 2 more quilts, ironing them, and cutting batting. I was glad I had large enough pieces in my batik stash for both of them.
I didn't do any sewing last night because the storms rolled in a little after 7 p.m. so I had my machine unplugged. There was small hail for awhile and rain. The tornadoes were about 50 miles away. More rain and small hail after 10 p.m.

It’s interesting to see them side by side. I thought I’d like the horizontal one best but I really like them both. The horizontal one seems to glow having the orange & orange/red fabrics that read more solid. The vertical one has the added interest of the strip inserts. Glad you received small hail only.
Both striped quilts are fabulous! That's big job getting those quilts ready to send out, but more finishes coming soon! Sounds like you had some rough weather. We had some light rain yesterday morning, but it cleared out and we had some sunshine which was so nice. The temps are going to be dropping over the next 10 days from the low in the 30's to in the teens. Mother Nature is being a meanie!
Both quilts are so lovely, Wanda--interesting how just an orientation change can alter the "look and feel" so much!! Nice work on these...
Glad you didn't get those tornadic winds!! Rain and hail is enough, right?
45 here this morning and I'm off to get my hair cut. I wonder how short i can get my hairdresser to agree to? Funny that--usually it's the other way around...;)))
hugs, Julierose
We are in for a wet, wet day here - glad you escaped the worst of it last night. I'm glad you posted the two strippy quilts side by side - it's great to sit and study them.
I like both of them! They'd work well with other genres (thinking Australian or African) as well as 'regular' prints. Even Rainbow Scrap Challenge colors. Did you use Lynn Dykstra's concept? We were spared the hail but we're in for more rain today.
Oh what happy creations ~ Two fun filled quilts full of your signature colorful strips of scraps .
glad to hear the storms were not real close to you - we were in warning in the middle of the night but that track went through 10 miles from us and it never touched down.
I like those quilts
Someone shared the link to your blog with me a while ago & I've been enjoying your posts! I am working on my "first" "real" quilt -- a sampler, using all Kaffe Fassett/Collective fabrics -- and it's wild. I've been saving all my scraps & hope to have enough to make something like this someday (or at least a placemat). Inspirational. Thank you.
So neat to see them side by side! I have been prepping for a quilt retreat and have lots of different things that need stitching up and figuring out. I seem to have all kinds of quilts stalled because of technical difficulties. Got out the graph paper and calculator and hope I do ok.
