Sunday sewing...............

Some of the pieced scraps from the orange basket got made into four 5.5" crazy pieced blocks.

They will go into this box of 5.5" batik squares.  I counted over 300 plain squares and about 30 pieced blocks.

I got a bunch of blocks made for the 'other 16 patch' quilt project made with Marcia Derse fabric and tried 2 layouts.  The blocks are horizontal in this layout.  I need to cut 6 or 8 more fabrics depending on which layout I choose.

I rotated the photo for a vertical block layout.  I will probably leave some future blocks as 2 halves so the rows can be staggered for whichever layout I choose.

I then continued on piecing the rest of the strips into this larger unit.  Now I need to press these and cut two 5" columns from each.

I was looking out the west picture window to check on the rain and I saw there is a Sedum growing.  The ones in my front garden still have leaves packed around them so I haven't checked them yet.  There is also a Dandelion growing there and what looks like the grass that has little garlic roots (and turns into star flowers later).

I brought in my rain gauge so it won't freeze and we had a half inch of rain by 7 p.m.  It continued to rain and changed over to snow at 11 p.m.

The layouts messed with my mind…….in the horizontal one the rectangle pieces are vertical and vice versa, lol. You have a ways to go on the batik crazy pieced blocks to match the 300 (!?!?!?) plain squares, but what a great idea to have the cut plain squares ready and simply make crazy blocks as scraps happen.

The blocks made from the orange basket scraps and pretty! Sounds like you will have a lot of plain squares and pieced scrappy blocks to play with sometime in the future. The MD top is beautiful! You are making great progress on it. My daffodils bloomed, but I didn't get a picture yet. It is very windy here again - 17 mph winds with 37mph gusts. With the winds we have been having there will be lots of sticks in my yard to pick up.

I really like those scrappy blocks, Wanda--with those alternating plain blocks they will go together so well. The MD fabric pieces are looking so great. Good progress on things for you...
Rain has hit us this morning...1/2" only so far...46 degrees....
I spied one lone daffodil pushing up near my front stoop...it's still so cold here...any greenery is so welcome though...
Hugs, Julierose

Your box of 5.5" squares shows a lot of potential for new quilt ideas. The front that is causing so much grief for much of the country came through here yesterday. No moisture, but lots of high winds that increased fire danger. So far, no problems in our immediate area.

Your various boxes contain such delightful quilt seeds! At first I thought I preferred the horizontal layout, but then I looked harder at the vertical layout. Now I'm undecided. (Hmmm. What about setting them one way and the other way?) About 3" of snow here.

Another interesting post today with so many options to think about. I always look forward to what you decide on each one.

I prefer the vertical and I love your plan to stagger the blocks. I made one quilt with this design and kept all the blocks "even" with each other and ended up not loving the quilt. Staggering would make ALL the difference for me. Thanks!

You are so good at using your scraps bits! I'm pretty good at using my hand dyed scraps but terrible at using printed ones. I think I just don't have enough of them to have a good variety.

Oh how I love the crazy blocks- so much fabric goodness compressed into a block. Hmm, snow is covering everything today so who knows what is coming up.
