A look back 2011........finches are here........

It shouldn't come as any surprise that my favorite quilt from 2011 was my "H - I give it 5 Stars".  Here is a photo of it hanging in my dining room.  Here is a tutorial on making the H blocks.  I have had many people send me photos of their H quilts using my tutorial as a guide.  I also used the H blocks in this quilt.
As I walked by the kitchen window I noticed movement out by the coneflowers.  First there was a female finch there and by the time I got back with the camera it was the male goldfinch.

He was really tearing apart the seed head.

I couldn't hold the camera still enough on the super zoom so this one is a tiny bit blurry.  All photos will enlarge if you click on them.

Even if coneflowers were not so beautiful, I would grow them for the finches. Today I am visiting the New York Botannical Gardens to see the flowers and the Chihuly exhibit.

I put a cone flower in a pot (large) in the front. Spied a finch taking one apart too. I keep nijer seed socks in the back so we have them all summer. Love seeing their spark of color ... we have them in the winter too, but not so pretty then... the males look more like the dull females. I like the H quilt too...

I love that H quilt! And I love those little gold finches too! They add a sparkle to my garden.

That's a gorgeous quilt, and one of the reasons I started stashing Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I stopped deadheading my coneflowers because of the finches also. I may pick a few to scatter in other areas, but mostly I leave them until next spring

Love your H quilt, perfect for me with double H as my initials. Our finches showed up when I got double feeders as a Mother's Day gift but now they are on my coneflowers which are truly ugly now. The finches love the seeds now.

I remember your H quilt. So lovely. How wonderful that you were able to see the goldfinch in your garden, and photograph it so we could see it too. I don't think I've seen one in my garden yet.

My place is always full of goldfinches. I just love them. Besides the flowers I plant I have loads of wild sunflowers and coneflowers.

Love your H quilt s much as ever, and your pattern and this quilt inspired me to make the one for my grandson - I thoroughly enjoyed making it! Lovely to see it hanging in your cosy nook.
I've always had food out for the birds here in our garden but sadly had to stop because of our four legged friend Leila, cats and birds just don't mix!

It has been a treat to see your quilts from the past again. They truly are timeless. Your garden photos this season has been fun to compare with my garden here in the valley. My sister sent the Fair paper, and it makes us wish we could be there. Maybe next year.

Wow! That little goldfinch is really bright! Our goldfinches are a bit different, but still cute! Thank you for catching one on camera and sharing it. :D

I am starting to see more of the finches around here with them looking for those seed heads. The H quilt is outstanding and such a fun piece.

I have always loved that H quilt!

Your finches are much more yellow than ours.
