Of course I had to try a few more choices though. This one has a very dark brown in a print called Aboriginal Dot. You might be able to see the print if you click on the photo to enlarge it.
I thought a lime green print might work so I pulled out the first one I saw and tried it. Even if it was a solid lime, I don't think it would work because it emphasizes the yellow in the blocks.
The last choice of the day yesterday was a beige background with gray and lavender circles. This one also gives a grid floating over the background look. If I want it to look more like the one in the book, the red is probably the best choice because it joins the stripped sashing where this beige one separates itself from the sashing and blocks and becomes a third element (but I like it).
I only got 5 more sashing strips made yesterday so I have a couple more days on this one.

I favor the dark brown - it gives your sensational piece more depth! Gorgeous stuff, Wanda. As usual..
I think that I like the Brown Aboriginal Dot as well. Although the red is also a good choice, my second pick.
I love the floating effect of the green cornerstones. But for the one like in the book, it needs to be the red. As always, you figured it out!
I really like the dark brown - it seems to bring the blocks and sashing alive.
I'm also more partial to the Aboriginal dots it really makes all the colours of the quilt come to life. I also like the fact that this way it becomes more original than following the book.
I believe I like the dark brown the best. It has punch. The others seem to fade away. so it depends on the look you want.
I like the Aboriginal dots also. The dark fabric seems to recede giving your pieced blocks and sashing a 3-D look. But it's your quilt and anything you do always turns out wonderfully.
I really like the dark brown squares. They make a nice frame for each block and the stripes between each of the dark brown blocks seem to pop!
The brown is nice, but I think I like the red better. How about a darker red, maybe like a burgundy or something? If you keep cutting pieces to audition in this quilt you will soon have enough pieces for a whole new quilt. :-)
I guess I am the odd one here. I like the top green the best since it recedes and brings the squares and sashing to the forefront. The dark one is just... too dark; to me it looks like there are holes on the quilt. But as usual I defer to your decisions since real life colors are different than computer monitor colors.

I like the dark brown because it recedes and the quilt seems to float above it.
It is amazing what one little bit of color can do to the feel of a quilt. The dark brown is most pleasing to my eye, but I like some of the other choices too. When you started this quilt, I wasn't so sure about it. LOL! I am sure now that I love it!
I am all into the green myself. Any will be wonderful and I am sure the real colors seen by you are more accurate.
Personally, I still like the green myself. It provides the necessary rest for the eyes, but acts more like a neutral than any others. probably because it is a medium tone as opposed to the light or dark options. Like you said, those add another design element.
I still like the green very much. But my new favorite is the beige with gray and lavender circles: You still get the effect of a floating grid, but it's just lighter and I think it lets the quilt breathe a bit more.
The lime green (which looks more puce-yellow on my screen) is very quirky in a fun way and makes me think of you more than the other choices. In a good way, lol!
The brown doesn't sing to me. But I prefer it to the red. Poor Red...
Gosh, I can see I'm in the minority, but I do like red squares, just not that red. It's too orange. A deeper, truer red, perhaps?
Next choice, the brown, and third, the neutral.
I really like the deep brown. Second pick would be the grey/lavender squares.
What a great quilt - I loved it when I first saw it in the book! I like the way the red pulls it all together but then I'm always partial to red. Looking forward to seeing the finish.
Your eye for color will pick the best one, this is a magnificent piece! One of my favorites that you've made.
Love the brown aboriginal dots because it makes the blocks weave and stand out. But I also like the last one. You know what? Any of them would make a great quilt!
I like the last one the best, because it does let everything else show up. The darker cornerstone options stand out too much for me!
Hi Wanda,
So far I think the green dot keeps the quilt more "fun"; the brown is more serious ("I'm a real quilt, don't you know").
The lighter ones add too much chaos to the already busy quilt.
Hope you're keeping cool!!
We just had some very weird storms coming thru, almost straight from the north.

I am going to sit back and watch for your final decision . Up to this point I have no preference , each color has its merits. Just know it will be an outstanding quilt and can't wait to see it.
Louise
I like the grey backgroung squares. It does make the blocks look like they are floating. Great color choices.
I opened each picture in a new window and enlarged, then lined them up side by side. Then I stepped back. They all look really good, but to me (and it surprised me because I always like red) the lime green print seemed to make it look the best. I did not notice that it emphasized the yellow. But as so many have said, your eye is better, and you see the colors as they are. There is such variance in photographs and in how each computer "sees" those photos. I eagerly anticipate seeing how you will choose!
I don't envy you your decision. It's at this point projects usually become a UFO for me because I can't make up my mind! How would black & white print look? So far I think the brown photographs the best, but in person I'm sure they look entirely different. I'm curious to see which one it is.......
Decisions, decisions, I like the dark brown best. I hope you had a nice day sewing. I know I did.
I like the green dots! I don't envy you having to make this decision.
Hoo Boy, I am very much like Donna. At this point, the project becomes a ufo for me, not knowing which color to pick. But, putting it aside always helps, for when I pull it out much later, the right choice becomes obvious.
I am always amazed at your ability to keep going, and you KNOW when the right color comes along. I can't wait to see what you decide to use! When it was between red and green, I chose the green. In today's picture, my first choice was brown, but I think brown is too predicable and makes it rather normal. Go for the unexpected, I say!
I like the green with dots the best, it seems to work with the scrappy sashings as well as stand out a bit on its own. This is turning out so pretty. This book is really dangerous, isnt' it!
I like the "floating" look of the last one too, but my favourite is the green dots.
I like the beige/lavender/gray one the best and agree with Purple Pam that it makes the design look like it is floating on top.
