Not my usual kind of fabric
I am going to teach the disappearing 9 patch class at the sewing machine store next month so I needed to get a sample made. I have had these Moda fabrics for about 10 years and decided to use them on this project. This is 4 blocks just laying on my cutting mat. I have 16 blocks sewn to hang as a display and I will add more after I demonstrate on them in class. Now that all of the season premiers are on I have 2 hours of sewing time and pressing time while watching them. I still haven't figured out how to record on my VCR since Comcast kindly gave me the free digital boxes that I would need to view channels I am already paying for. Do you hear the sarcasm (and the frustration)? I no longer have HD channels which I had before I hooked up the digital box. That will be an extra $9 a month please. I can play VCR tapes but I haven't had any luck trying to record after about 4 combinations of things that I have tried.

Oh! Wanda, the frustration of all things technical ! I also dispair , I,m waiting for the man to replace a faulty part in my boiler, He,s coming this morning, mmm ,
I look forward to seeing this pattern. --cottonreel
I love the D9P I just did a lap quilt using it.
I am with you on this one. I got a box for one tv and a new digital tv and I can't get the vcr to record on either. Like you, I can also watch vhs tapes, just can't record. I did find an online place to watch shows online, after they have played. I watched the season premier of Bones on it and it was very good quality.
We just installed our free boxes yesterday. Interesting that we had to do that. Amazing that yet one more piece of technology is added to our TV sets. I swear you need to be an engineer to work them. I hope you have a great time at class!
We can all relate to the technical issues of the new equipment. Augh!
Love the D9P blocks. It is such a fun block to make.
I like the Moda fabrics you are using for your DNP model. Very autumnal. Can't wait to see pics of this as it progresses.
After one too many arguments with my cable company and their technicians about the inability to tape on my VCR with one of their boxes, I broke down about 2 years ago and rented one of their DVRs for 7 extra dollars a month. The DVR replaces their other box, and I can pause tv...rewind...record two shows at once while watching another one I recorded. I still probably can't record with my VCR, but I find with the DVR it's okay as long as I don't want a hard copy of something. You may want to look into a DVR with your cable company!
Then of course, there's always live streaming. So many shows are available to watch on the internet now! At no charge!
AMEN to the dvr!! It is FABULOUS and I'd never be without one again. I haven't watched VCR in a few years now. Try it, you'll LIKE it (after you learn to USE it! LOL).
I like the beginnings of your DNP and finished one recently for the ugly fabric challenge (think you've seen it). It's a fun block to make.
I hear you loud and clear ~ I love technology but I do so wish I could just turn on the tv and watch what I want without an advanced degree in recording and remote-ology!
You're right ~ these are NOT your colors, but they do work for a sample.
What happened to the days of the three major network channels, and if you wanted to watch something you watched it when it was actually on? We record almost everything that we watch. It's kind of nice, but frustrating too. the one show that our DVR won't record is Project Runway. Go figure!
Your 9 block pieces look great!
Wanda, maybe my brain is missing something, but I can't see a 9-patch in your Moda pieces. I see four blocks of double four-patch. Or maybe one big block of triple four-patch. What am I missing?
It's an interesting pattern, though.

I love the disappearing nine patch! They may not be in your typical fabrics and colours, but they are still very stunning. You certainly have a way with fabric!
Hi Wanda,
The disappearing 9 patch looks like a good one to use with seasonal fabrics. Did you start with 5-inch squares to make the 9-patch (or is that a secret?)

I've had the same problem with my new Comcast box - and I'm usually pretty good figuring out things like this. I finally decided to get DVR, but I had been toying with the idea for a few years. In the meantime, I found that most of the cable shows I wanted to tape in this late summer/early fall were available On Demand for free: Eureka, Monk, Psych, Project Runway
We got the DVR box from our cable company and love it!! We tend to record a whole season of a show and then watch it all at once.
Wow -- those fabrics are so different for you!! It does look like fall.
