Meanwhile, last night I decided to start playing with my selvages. Some people like only the white selvage to show where others like some of the fabric to show to. I'm just experimenting at this point.
I really need more variety if I am going to do a very large project so I will just do a couple small things right now.
On Saturday night I also got the binding on this small quilt (about 42" square), also all by machine. I sewed it on the top and then flipped the binding under and stitched in the ditch on the right side next to the binding to catch the flap on the back side. The center of this quilt was a sample of one of the packs of Trip Around the World fabrics that we used to choose and bundle at the last quilt shop I worked at.
I'm not sure what it's use will be. It isn't really baby colors, it is too small to cuddle under. I think maybe it would be a nice piece to drape over a table.

I'm collecting selvedges ever since I figured out some people like them...I used to throw them out! Are you interested in any? From reading your blog, I know our tastes differ, so I'm sure mine could add some variety...I have a quart-size baggie 3/4 full @ the moment...
The bottom quilt is gorgeous and would look great as a table topper.
We have finished with our blizzard but its still -30 with a bit of wind so it's not very nice out. No ice, thank goodness. You are wise to cancel the appointment. THere's nothing more dangerous than driving on ice.
It is -30 (C) here too. The sun is shining which is deceptive. Albertans often say, "It you don't like the weather here, wait a minute," but it seems we are stuck with this for a few days.
Interesting border fabric in that quilt. Your collection amazes me every post!
There's no such thing as 'baby' colors. My friend had a baby quilt made from black and bright solids - she and her son loved it! I think the quilt is gorgeous and would be perfect for an autumn baby - or just draped over the back of the sofa.
I love your quilt, no matter what you decide to do with it, It's BEAUTIFUL. I really like how the light and dark play against each other.

I have been looking at my selvedges since you first wrote about them, and they are quite plain compared to yours. Maybe I don't see a lot of colorful ones as my colorful fabric is often in fat quarters.
I think the quilt would look good as a wall hanging in the right room. It draws you in.

Now...Wanda, dear.....don't you know how it is with the weatherman? When he predicts it to be NICE weather that would make us happy, he is often wrong. BUT...when he predicts crappy weather, he is usually perfectly accurate. *sigh* (Good job to have, though, as you can be wrong a lot and still keep your job AND make good money, too!!!)
Well, like I said we got your warm weather. It was 57 here today. It was rather refreshing! I love what you are doing with your selvages. I can't see what you will make with them. One of those little bags would be great! I love the "colorwash bargello" quilt. It really looks fabulous.
Oh, Wanda, that little quilt is stunning. I agree with LC, your fabrics are amazing. I tried using some selvages in some crumb blocks but mine are all so boring....just ancient RJR and old VIP stuff with no color dots. My stash is mostly old fat quarters and most don't even have the selvage edge!
Your little quilt is lovely. I think it would look great on a wall. Reminds me of sunlight through slats..
The weather...uggh. it is so so cold. Days like today I wonder what I was thinking when I took this job as a letter carrier. But after twenty some years you would think I was used to it. Nope. it still feels too darn cold!

I love the quilts! What is the pattern? it looks very similar to bargello. (I also loved reading your reading list! I read some of the same authors you do.)
Boy! You amaze me! You seem to finish a quilt a day. This one is lovely! I just can't seem to get into the selvage thing. I was cutting some off a couple of days ago and for about 3 seconds I was tempted to save them and make something. But then I came to my senses! I have so much fabric in my stash that I will have to live several more lifetimes just to get that stuff sewn together - without having selvages to worry about. But I am looking forward to seeing what you make with them! I'm sure it will be something wonderful!

I live most of your sewing projects through you and feel like I've done that. And I can truly say I will live the selvage stripping through you. Too tideous for this ole gal.

Your weather is worse than ours -- so far, that is. I think we've got snow coming in as of tomorrow sometime but, for now, we still have none.
I've saved selvedges for a long time. They're great for tying up tomato vines - very sturdy, and colorful too. But I think I tossed a bunch when I moved. Am saving again, though I'm not sure what I'll be doing with them.
Your quilt is stunning! It would look great on the wall, on a table or casually tossed on a sofa. Wonderful colors, as usual!
Our pond froze last night, but tomorrow is supposed to be 33 degrees, so it will thaw. Still icy outside today. Good luck with your weather. Hope it warms up some soon.
Maybe put the quilt over the back of a chair. I do that and switch them out and it gives the room a totally different look and makes me feel good.
I too am freezing here. It is supposed to snow all week and through the weekend on top of it. I guess that is winter and we sure do not need to "dream" of a white Christmas!
This is a beautiful quilt...as always the colors are amazing. Is it the fabric or are the pieces really as small as they appear to be? The Selvage project is really fun! I feel guilty when I cut the things off but, I do anyway. Your stash is wonderfully organized. I have space for everything but not enough....never enough!
