QOV sew in day in Batavia, IL

I spent part of the day yesterday trying out a new block and packing all of the things to take to our QOV sew in.

I found the block and technique in this book.  The blocks get trimmed to size after sewing which works  well when you have a lot of different people making the blocks.

I haven't trimmed the sections for the second block but I wanted to show that you get both red and blue pinwheels when the blocks go together.  I think this is similar to the little twister blocks that you cut out of a large piece of patchwork with a template.  The edge of these blocks are on the straight of grain.

Interesting. I like it that the edges aren't on the bias. Did you like the other quilts in the book?

Really snazzy. I've got a Twister ruler that I haven't used yet (it was on super sale at the local quilt retreat, but I'm not "allowed" to start a new project yet). hehe

Hi Wanda,
Hope you had a fun 4th of July. It was a perfect day here.
Thanks for the book tip on the block you're making. I had not seen the book but it looks like a fun one, especially for group projects (sometimes it's scary how different sized everyone's blocks turn out).
Have fun at QOV sew in.

Great block, thanks for sharing. I was intrigued by the Lil' Twister but this is easier.

Very nice block. It does look like the Twister. I have the blocks cut to make a Twister with my mom and sister, but it's nice that these edges are on the straight of grain. Now I'm really curious! Have fun today!

Love the red, white, and blue blocks! I need to find that book! Your winter and summer quilt tops turned out great!

Very interesting quilt block. I am anxious to see it all put together. Red/white/blue is so great for summer.

I really like that block! The red white and blue fabrics are lovely in it.

What a great block! This would do well with scrappy colours too.

Neat block! I have the small twister template and really like it but will definitely have to check out this book. Thanks Wanda!
