Stripe stash

I didn't accomplish any sewing other than a few inches of hand sewn binding yesterday. While I was in the basement cleaning up I was moving some boxes around and opened my stripes box. I have been using stripes as binding for over 20 years so every time I see a stripe at a good fabric sale I consider whether I need it for my collection. It is fun to shop in the stash in the hours that no quilt shop is open.A couple years ago when I was making my "all dots" quilt I cut 3 different widths of stripes too. I thought a dot and stripe quilt would be pretty exciting. I even thought an all stripe quilt would be exciting.
I may have to try some of these stripes in one of the 2 patterns that I have used the Kaffe stripes in.

I have a finishing class to teach today. If I have any pep when I get home I'll work on my binding.

Great eye candy! I have a small collection of stripe fabrics as well that I bought for potential bindings. My real fabric addiction, other than batiks, is dots! I have a terrible time resisting a good dot fabric :-).

Ditto, I have to agree with the ladies. Let me loose in your basement so I can raid your stash LOL

They say a zebra never changes his stripes, but I think he could if he lived with you ;-)

You have a stripe stash to envy! I love stripes too as I think they add just the right "zing" to a project - if they are used sparingly. Now, with that said, I LOVE your Kaffe stripes (all stripes) quilt block!!!

I honestly do not know of another person that has as much fabric as you do. And every piece of course with exuberant color !

Your fabric collection is almost making me envious. I have about 1/8 the stack of stripes and most of them are Kaffe fabrics or kid's bright colors. They do make wonderful binding!

Your collection of stripes is fabulous. I love stripes for binding and for some fussy cutting for some blocks.

Oh fun!

Do you ever do the stripes on the bias. I have a friend who does nearly every quilt that way, but I prefer the basic way.

Love ALL your stripes! Alex Anderson says she likes stripes for the inner border on a quilt. Me too. I just like stripes anyway...almost as much as plaids! Very fun collection you have.

I agree! The best thing about a good stash is having it in the middle of the night when you need it and nothing is open and anyway you don't want to go out. :)

Hi Wanda,
I have always loved stripes but never made a point to collect them. I see that will need to change!
I have done stripes for inner borders and one time for sashing between blocks, but always just buy the stripe to complement the top. Hmmm.

Wow what great stripes Wanda- I love the multicolored one that shows in the top row of the last picture- It reminds me of piano key borders.
You do have the best fabrics in your collection- I hadn't thought about using stripes for binding- I have made multicolored bindings using odd strips of fabrics for them.
How wide do you make your bindings?
I am sure you had a great class-
My Louisa L Smith templates have arrived and some new fabrics from Connecting Threads.
Now just need to get moving and quilting...
Warmest regards,
Anna

I love your stripey stash. I like the way striped borders and bindings make little ladders, leading you around the quilt.

Love your idea of using stripes for binding. Kind of looks like a pieced border. Thanks for the idea.
