Playing with stripes

I just didn't feel like binding a quilt yesterday so I played a little with my stripes. I have the beginnings of 2 projects here. Here is my inspiration for the one on the right. It is from Kaffe Fassett's book "Glorious Patchwork". I have always wanted to make this quilt but I can see my contrast is way higher than his so mine will just be inspired by his, but will be my own. I have a lot more stripes to cut yet.
Here are the first three finishes in January all together on the design wall so you can get a perspective of their sizes. The one on the left is 30.25" x 44.25". The top right piece is 31" x 24.75" and the plaid/stripe one is 24" square. In my bin of pieces and parts are these 2 plaid crazy pieced patchworks that I think I will use on some journal covers. They are made with some of the leftovers of the New York Beauty above. I think that was about 4-5 years ago that I made all 3 pieces. It was -6 degrees yesterday morning but got all the way up to 16 degrees by bedtime last night. Two more days and it will be above freezing if they read the weather charts right. I would like to see a little of the snow melt but I doubt it will stay warm long enough for that.

I love seeing stripes in quilts! My grandmother used a lot of stripes in her quilts!

I love the two new projects. I think I am going to have to go through my passionate patchwork book and take a look at that project too. I hope to get back to working on my stripes this week. Here is to hoping you have an above 0 heat wave!

i love your quilt...inspired or not .... by kaffe fassett's. i took several classes with him and finally gave it all up: i have become disenchanted with 'designers' who just want to make clones of themselves. i love his books and own all but the latest and think his fabrics are fabulous.

here we are in the midst of an artic blast: 5 degrees this morning when i got up around 7 am. not sure how long it will last but i am sure it will be too long.

Love your strips too.

I love both of the stripe projects. I think I have that Kaffe Fasset book too. I will have to dig it out. I like your constrasting version better than the one in the book.

Great job on the finishes!

I really like the higher contrast that you have in your pieces. I like it better than Mr. Fassett's.
All your finishes are so impressive, Wanda. We had 12 below zero here yesterday morning so waking up to 10 above today felt like I was at the equator.
Keep up the good work. I hope you'll continue with your "high contrast" piece.

Those stipe blocks are mesmerizing. Your fabrics always have such beauty. Inspiration is good and you ALWAYS take it a couple steps further and make it your own.

Three great pieces complete and they are just that.

Such fun journal covers in the making also.

I love the all red striped blocks. This one will be gorgeous, (like all your pieces). At least you have a quilt or two to curl up with on these cold winter days! ;-)

Stripes can certainly be used in some very beautiful and interesting ways. You are proof of that!!!

I like your high contrast better too! I think your stripe projects are very cool! Now I'm wishing I'd bought some of that fabric.

Great way to start off the New Year with those lovely finishes!

Wow, you are cold! Hope it warms up some soon. We're at about 40* here and very foggy. All the snow has still not melted! We're left with the old dirty bits. Ugh.

Three finishes already for the new year. WOW! All your quilts are so colorful. I love the NYB. I have a couple of books on that design. I have one I have made in two colors, but your multicolor plaid quilt is fabulous. WOW! WOW! WOW!

Those 3 finishes all together like that are absolutely mesmerizing. I don't know why, but the one on the top right is making me think of shattered cranberry glass. It really makes me want to just sit and stare at it for a while.

I'm feeling exhausted just from reading about all your finishes so far this year. I love the blocks inspired by KF at the top of your post.

Your blocks are looking good. This looks like fun!

Sorry I am so behind here with my comments. I love the crazy quilted blocks. Is that all cotton fabric you used or are there flannels and wools mixed in? I am impressed with how you keep the stipes so straight within, even on these crazy pieces. Thanks for sharing your quilting adventures
