A continuing story

When I write the blog post each day I forget that some of you don't read my blog every day. I thought there was some confusion (from some comments) about the H block and that some of you didn't know I designed and drafted the block and that I have already made one quilt top with this block. I went back and put a label on each of the posts that refer to it so you can go to the label list on my right side bar and click on H block and it will take you to all of the previous posts. I decided to put a link here to the post that explains the "H" (besides the fact that my last name starts with H) and shows where my inspiration came from.

And now on to new business: I have started another Kaffe quilt. I got some of the pieces cut to length while my art quilters' group was here. I don't care for the print Kaffe used in 2 of the center blocks and the border so I will look through my stash for a substitution. I have some of the checkerboard Ikat fabric for the other 2 center squares. I decided to wash it before I use it because it is a hand woven fabric, and a rather loose weave so I didn't get very far on this yesterday.
I pieced the strips for the first 4 triangles.
It was a little scary cutting the triangles since there wasn't a pattern, just the instruction to cut 3 triangles and then piece the 2 end pieces together and cut the 4th one.
This is how they will be placed around the center blocks except that I took the picture from the wrong angle.
I should have been over here at the flat edge at the left. Refer to the picture in the book and you will see what I mean.

I have the book with that Kaffe quilt in it, and loved it all except for the center checkered fabric, too. I want to make it, but I can't afford to buy all that beautiful Kaffe fabric at once. So I'll live vicariously through your project and continue picking up the fabric a little at a time when I see it on sale!

Wanda, We must be kindred spirits. I was just looking at that quilt yesterday and thinking how that would be a great quilt to begin. However, then I realized how many I have right now in the works. It will have to wait until later. So for now I will live vicariously through you!! I love it so far!

I agree with Laura, I like everything but the checkered fabric in the center. I would replace that with some of Kaffe's big flowers. But that is just me.

This quilt is stunning. I am so impressed (jealous, envious....) of your Kaffe stash! You make such great use of it though, and I would probably just spend time petting it:) This could be a great string project! You were very brave to cut those triangles. I'll be watching your progress on this one, too. Thanks for making such colourful quilts!

Neat quilt! Good call on changing out the border fabric. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

great looking quilt. I will be doing some kind of scrappy border on my scrap quilt that I am making right now and will come back and look at your strips when I get to that point and see if something like that would work out.

I think this is a great quilt but I like your fabric choices better than the one from the book. I can't wait to see the top when it's all pieced.

What will the finished size be?

Another great start! Gotta love that Kaffe fabric! I just love how you post everything and explain as you go along. Can't wait to see the progress on this one.

So how DID you figure out how to best cut those triangles? Sounds like the dreaded math to me.

I like the fabrics. Which book is this from?
So far I have loved all the patterns from every book you have mentioned on your blog so much I have bought a few.

It seems that KF quilts are wonderful, but the instructions are often confusing and seem intended to make the quilts the most difficult way possible. I often wonder if Lucy Prior and he use any pattern testers. I am excited to see this quilt completed. I have admired it in the book, and it will be wonderful for you to be the pattern tester for the rest of us.

Your blog is PERFECTLY named.... I ALWAYS love to see what you are up to because I love color, also!

Along with everybody else, I covet your stash of Kaffe Fassett fabric... and already cut strips sometimes!

If you ever have a garage sale, call me!

Love that Kaffe quilt -- can't wait to see what you put in the centre. I'd be tempted to use one of the huge florals.

Not a lot of directions, but I do like the way those triangles come together. Very smart.

re: Mossy Radiation Qulit ~ I read ... "I have some of that checkerboard Ikat fabric for the other 2 center squares"... you like the checkerboard but NOT the border and the pieces used for the center same as the border. Right?

Anyway... Mossy Radiation is quite an inspiration. I like what you have going and am anxious to see YOUR design.

Oh it would be so fun to see you do this step of this quilt Wanda! Wonderful fabrics = I can't wait to see what you choose for the substitute for the center block and borders!
