Making test blocks..............

I cut some blocks with my dies yesterday as tests for the directions on the packages.  The directions don't give all of the information that I think is important so sometimes it takes 2 tries to get the blocks sewn correctly.  This one is Hattie's Choice which I have tried once before but I wanted to refresh my memory.

Then I made some LeMoyne star blocks.  The last 2 test blocks I made had me confused about the grain lines so I think I got it right this time.

I started out the afternoon trying to get some backings ready but didn't make a lot of headway on that project.  I'll go back and work on that this morning.

While looking for something else I came across one finished Lady of the Lake block and the pieces for a second block so I sewed that one too.  At one time I planned on making all 4 seasons in Lady of the Lake blocks and these were the beginning of winter.  I don't intend to make the winter quilt so these will go into the orphan block box.  If you want to see summer and fall click here.  Spring is in this post.

Beautiful blocks! I especially like the LeMoyne star blocks and the white and black fabric you used.

I love "Lady of the Lake" but after a while making all those triangle squares does get a little tedious. Yours are really lovely, especially the spring and summer. Of course, with the winter we've had, I'm dying for something green. Take care, Wanda.

I've seen the Lady of the Lake block before, and frankly it never made a big impression — except I thought it would be an awful lot of work with those little triangles. BUT, seeing your "spring" version — so beautiful! — I was struck by the "on point" setting. That way, the block takes on a tribal feel, which to me is very appealing. I've long thought about doing a quilt based on lilim rugs and camel blankets I saw in Morocco and Turkey, where this image is plentiful in the textiles...

LeMoyne star really sparkles and Lady of the Lake is a fun surprise. Hattie's Choice, is my choice too. Love the fabrics especially the turquoise and that design pulled me right in.

Great post today Wanda .

Hattie's Choice is definitely a new block to me and it looks like it's one where the die cutter really makes it easier to accomplish.

The lady of the lakes blocks are real pretty, but I am sure they are a pain to sew.

I think my favorite of the blocks above is the Lemoyne star!!! Love the deep black and colors with the white and black simple print. Of course, the other 2 are nice as well... but the one that speaks to me is the star! Glad you will be thawing out a bit, just remember that the fat lady hasn't sung until the end of May, and that could change!!!
