Fabric selection.........

I am thinking about using this assortment of Marcia Derse fabrics in my next quilt.  There aren't very many light colored prints in her collections.  The 3 beige ones shown here the best choices that I have.  The purples are kind of hidden in this photo but they will be very prominent in the quilt.

I have been spending hours sorting squares of fabric into kits.  Here are 2 cuts from the same fabric.  One person gets a lavender flower and the other person gets a pink flower.
The end of season plants in the pots have lots of holes in them.  I don't have the heart to throw them away yet; maybe next month.

I also have a collection of Marsha Derse fabrics and struggle with the same issue - not many lights. Love her fabrics but have a hard time finding the right way to use them.

Your fabrics are pretty. My annuals look rather worn too, still in pots trying to hold onto summer. My purple coneflowers attract yellow finches so I’m keeping them too, but they look terrible. Fall is here and winter not far behind but my body says Summer.

Such beautiful fabric in eye catching colors, but can see the problem designing a pattern with so few toned down fabrics available, but I know you will find a way to do so Wanda.

I tend to mix text prints on cream with my MD fabrics - her's are so warm and rich. Your pulled pieces are lucious!

Good Morning. Beautiful MD fabric combo. Then again I love all her prints. I so admire what you do ....are you fussy cutting all your tiny (2 inch?) squares?

I had to go to my computer with the big screen to see the beige pieces of fabric. Those blues in the front are so beautiful I didn't see the beiges on the right, on my iPad. Fun eye exercise today, looking for the beiges.

I read somewhere last year that insects need someplace to live in the winter and it is better to leave the plants there and clean up in the spring. Not sure if it is really true, but it gives my lazy self a good excuse to not do work before its time.

I LOVE those Marcia Derse fabrics and don’t think I’ve ever seen any of her fabrics I don’t like. I actually just recently bought a kit from her for a quilt, which calls for quite a bit of solid Kona Cotton as a background to all her fabrics. I haven’t used it yet, just looked at it, and it might even need two different Kona cottons.
Couldn’t you in this case and in any others, use some non Marcia Derse lighter fabrics to supplement if that’s what you need?

My husband and I went to Kansas City last week to see our son. My husband keeps encouraging me to stop at quilt stores on the way but I'm so anxious to see our son that I hadn't done it until last week. We stopped at a store in Joplin. The lady told me they had a large selection of African fabrics. I might be terming that incorrectly but I remembered some of the prints you have shown in the past. I bought three fat quarters - of course none go together! I will probably use them for zippered bags of some kind. Such a step-away from my normal fabrics.
