Tiring day..............

I trimmed this quilt a few days ago and yesterday chose the blue stripe at the left edge as my binding.  I'll get it cut today.

I didn't mention on yesterday's post that after getting 8.25" of rain in 3 days I had water seeping in along my south basement wall.  I mopped up some Saturday night and then checked it again yesterday morning.  There was more.  I started working on it, making a little progress.  My son and daughter-in-law stopped by to drop of my 5 gallon water bottle and I asked my son to go to the attic (I have a stairway) and get my box fan.  When he carried it to the basement for me he saw what a mess I had.  I have a small wet/dry vacuum but had never used it for water before.  He vacuumed it all up for me and we set up 3 fans to dry the floor.  This is in the area where my double design wall is and the water was soaking up on the flannel on one of the panels so we moved both and I removed the wet flannel and washed it.  Both design walls are on their sides and leaning against tables, what a mess.  I was up and down the basement stairs at least 10 times yesterday and was wiped out by 10 p.m.  I'll need to run the fans for one more day.  More rain is predicted for Thursday and I'm hoping it will only be a small amount.

My blackberry lily is blooming. That is the name that the lady selling the plant to me said they were.  When I look that up on the internet, none seem to look like these.  Maybe I'll use my plant identifier app today and see what it says.

There is one large and one small cucumber on the largest plant.  The ones I started from seed are about a foot tall now but don't have any blooms on them yet.

I have one tomato ripening on the plant.  This is the 4th of July variety and I usually have ripe tomatoes on this variety by now.  There are lots of tomatoes on the plant so maybe I'll have a bunch ripening at once.

I absolutely feel your pain!!! I had the same issue, but on the north side of my house. Nearly 12" of rain in 2 days. I put carpet down after the reno, so it would feel warmer... Had to pull it up from the wall, ran fans for a week... got it all dry and re-stretched. My displacement mess was considerably more than yours, but almost all is back in place!!! I hope we don't ever see that again!!!!

Have your son check the ground around the house on the side where you're getting water coming into your basement. Often it's a case of the ground settling over the years so water doesn't drain away from the house. It's an easy fix to then bank more dirt against the house, sloping away. Maybe not so easy at your place since you have a lot of plantings around your house that would be disturbed but better than a wet basement.

I am sorry to hear about the water in the basement. It was great timing that your son and DIL came by. Kudos to your son for pitching in and helping you with the mess. I had water in my lower level because of the chipmunks digging holes. After I had bigger gutters and downspouts installed and trapping the chipmunks, I haven't had any more water issues. I just caught chipmunk number 11 and there are more that need to be dealt with.

The blue striped binding will be perfect on that quilt. The lily is so pretty whatever it is called. LOL!! My flowers are looking pretty good right now, but the thistle is growing too so I am going to have to get outside and get more pulled before it goes to seed.

Yes, too much rain all at once causes multiple issues with drainage. So sorry you had to go through all that! Fingers crossed the next rain will be less problematic. You deserve a rest day today ...

The Picture This app calls it a ditch lily -- that is, just another variation of the ubiquitous orange lilies that bloom in profusion. Water in a fabric-filled basement is awful. I know that from experience! Glad your son came along to help you out.
