Beautiful butterfly...........

I dug out some more tall plants in the front garden yesterday morning and then I saw this butterfly in my zinnia bed.  I ran in to get my camera and the butterfly didn't seem to mind me standing close and taking photos.
I sewed off and on during the day and got all of the vertical seams in the other half of the triangle quilt sewn.  Now I have 11 horizontal seams to sew to complete the top.

I mowed the grass late in the afternoon when it was 84 degrees.  The humidity and temperature are supposed to rise the next 3 days so I had to get it done.  Part of the back yard is shade grass that doesn't grow as fast and I skipped that part so it only took 38 minutes to mow.

Humidity is going up here too.... and lots of rain to go with it. I've seen several butterflies.... flying about and one on the roses.... this week, but alas gone before I got the camera.... Think I will go looking for some sunflowers this morning before the sun is high and the clouds come in..... Stay cool!

I have noticed butterflies and hummingbirds on my zinnias. The zinnias that came up on their own from last year's seeds have come along nicely. I will not post a picture because my flower beds are a mess! The weeds are out of control and I don't have the time to go and pull them until after I get the AC/DC and Harley quilts done. The butterflies and hummingbirds don't mind the weeds. LOL!!

Butterflies look great on your zinnias!

We've had both the yellow and the black swallowtails here, plus lots of these little chocolate and white colored moths (I say moths because their bodies are much chunkier than butterflies). They do love the zinnias and these tall flowers that jumped the fence into our yard (purple heads). My trumpet vine on the deck gets lots of visits from the hummers as do the feeders I put up. Lots of activity. Have you ever noticed how the hummers "chirp" when they're near? I can always tell when one is hovering about.

Beautiful butterfly. It must have just come out of its cocoon. It looks great against your beautiful flowers. I posted pics of my zinnias today, copying you. Alas, no butterfly.

It IS a pretty one. They seem to really like the zinnias. I saw a pretty orange butterfly on mine last week. Color upon color.

I can't say for sure, but I believe it might be the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, about which butterfliesandmoths dot org says this,
"Identification: Male is yellow with dark tiger stripes. Female has 2 forms: one yellow like the male and the other black with shadows of dark stripes. Hindwing of both female forms has a row of striking blue chevrons and an iridescent blue wash over parts of the interior hindwing. The upperside hindwing has a prominent orange marginal spot that is generally larger than the row of pale marginal spots. On the underside of forewing of spring individuals the row of marginal spots may be merged into a continuous band, thus appearing similar to the Canadian Tiger Swallowtail." In Iowa these are the swallowtails we see most, I think, so I thought Illinois may, also.
