I appreciate all of the comments and suggestions yesterday. I have decided to stay with my original vision of a neutral quilt with the tiny bits being the stars of the show.
It will be larger than this because I have 10 more blocks cut and ready to sew and need to make 6 more to get the layout to come out even. It will have 2 more rows on one side so there will be 5 long rows and 4 short rows altogether. Then I need to decide if I'm making eight 2/3 blocks to fill in along the top and bottom edge or just a piece of neutral fabric.
I spent about half of the day yesterday straightening up the basement and starting the vacuuming. The art quilters are coming Monday. I was shifting some things to different boxes and came across this selection of 1" squares (finish at 1/2") of colorwash type fabrics. I was tempted to just dump all of it in the dog bed stuffing bags.......just tempted, couldn't do it.

I'm not "Set up" for responses to my comments, but please see my email to you today!!!
Love the bits quilt. Have to find some batik neutrals. I could not dump the trays either. They are all sorted and are luscious fabric. They would be stunning sewn up.
Love your decision to go with the calm version....actually striking with just a quick glance.
What? Throw away WC squares.....The tiny finished piece is great. I would want to use the interfacing to use up 1'' squares for sure. Do understand your temptation.
The neutral quilt is looking good and I like the choice since it doesn't compete with the colorful pieced square centers.
Those are tiny squares! I would have to be in a bad mood and frustrated before I would toss them though. They are like little jewels!
I really like the neutral design best.
My vote would be to go with the neutral fabric for the top and bottom edges as that is consistent with the rest of the design.
I like your decision going with the neutral.
I loved the original and glad you decided on that one
I like your final decision to use the neutral layout! Instead of making 2/3 blocks to fill in those spaces, why not cut the rows and make those odd blocks sticking out right now into 2/3 blocks? (Does that make sense?) Once you are finished laying out all the blocks you have now, cut the edges even, turning some of those full blocks into partial blocks. Then you are finished! (Lol, well, then you have to layer it, baste it, quilt it, and bind it.....)
It looks like a watercolor painting. I love it.
I really like the quilt top as it is now, I wasn't crazy about all the sash choices. Those little pieces would make cute pot holders.
Your original was the best of all and happy to see you went with it. You always do.
I, too like your neutral lay out, and I completely understand about the 1" squares as I have trouble throwing them out.
Love that little watercolor quilt. How big is it? Is it done? Does it need any hand quilting?
As an "arm chair" quilter... I am so happy you stayed with your original design on this one. . . I had to go back and read all the suggestions that was given to you. That is part of the entertainment that goes along with your blog... (*._,*) Knowing you, you will design a great piece or two or three, with those little squares you were tempted to dump.

My mind boggles at the thought of 1 inch squares. You are a heroine!
I am so humbled that you kindly commented on my Liberty quick quilt. Thank you so much, but it is eclipsed by the quality and perfection of yours I must state. It was your colourwash quilts that inspired me to shade mine corner to corner but it was only done quite casually and it went together so swiftly for Lotti the new baby.. One day I will go for a real one like yours with far smaller squares.
I'm loving the progression of the filled rectangles quilt and I await your final choices with great anticipation.

Looks wonderful, a lovely quilt to curl up under stitching or reading!
I used to throw away the ends of my colorwash 2 inch strips when I was cutting squares. My friend started fishing them out of the wastebasket so I started saving 1 1/4 inch squares that finished at 3/4 inch. I made some small colorwash pieces including a bunch of postcard size pieces with 35 squares and 3/4 inch plain fabric borders. Eventually I gave away all my colorwash squares; I couldn't throw them out either.
Glad you saved those little squares. I know you will make phenomenal quilts with them.
I love the neutrals, and I am so glad you didn't put them tiny itty blocks in the dog bed! I love sewing those and seeing those tiny squares used in something!
