Errand day...........again.......
It would be nice to be able to dole out the errands to a bunch of other people, but in the end it is just me doing them. I spent part of the afternoon reading and didn't go near fabric until I was watching "Castle". I have been working on these log cabin blocks in between other things for the last couple months. Four of the blocks were left over from the 2 batik log cabin quilts I made last year. I still have one more round to do on 8 blocks. Then I think I will make a few more blocks so it will be 5 blocks across and 7 down. Then I will put 2 borders on it and finish it as a summer lap quilt. Batik is so lightweight that it will be good for that. I have used Hobbs Thermore batting in one other quilt and may get some for this quilt. It is a very thin polyester batting that was originally made years ago for quilted garments and was only 45" wide. Then the quilters asked for it for quilts too and they started making it 90" wide.

I need a couple lighter weight quilts . Thanks for suggesting that. I had forgotten about it being out there to use. Chris
What method do you use for constructing log cabin blocks? If you use foundation piecing, do you make the foundations yourself, or buy them? I saw some pre-printed foundations out of what felt like interfacing material at a quilt show last weekend, and am wondering if I should have bought them.
You know, I just have such a thing against errands. I try to schedule them into one day but I often just can't find the energy to pull 'em all off at once. It takes away from my free time and I get grumpy. I need some elves… Then I could work on my own Log Cabins like you have. Well… not quite like you have. *wink*
Yes, wouldn't it be nice to have someone do all of the errands so we could spend the day playing with fabric.

I love to see your batik creations. Thank you for the sewing machine needle advice you gave me a few weeks ago. I put a smaller needle in the machine and it was a night-and-day difference in sewing batiked fabric!

Love it!!! I just pulled out my box of batik 1 1/2 inch strips to make a half log cabin quilt. Not sure when I will actually get started on it, but I figured having the box pulled out was a good start lol.
My friends and I all joke about how we need to have "wives" to do all the errands... ha ha. I try to fit them in on workdays so that my weekends stay free!
Minions! We need minions. It WOULD be nice to have someone else to do the errands, wouldn't it?

Where would one find Thermore? I have never heard of it but it sounds like something I would like to use.
I love all your quilts, however I think your batiks log cabin quilts are my favorite. Are most of your strips 1 1/2"? I remember you said that you iron your fabric before cutting. Do you use spray starch as well? Again, I love the burst of color and fabric selections in all your quilts. Sheila

His instructions are definitely not for the beginning quilter --cautionary words which have fallen on closed ears of a daughter. Could be interesting.
