A whole lot of cutting........

If you have been reading my blog for a long time you hear me talking about my clean up cuts, the ones done to straighten the fabric before I cut my pieces.  I always cut them generous and they are used in some of my favorite quilts (my current favorite and second favorite on the right side bar to name a couple).
For the fabrics I am cutting for Winding Ways, I have cut a 12" strip off 72 different batiks, then cut a 12" square from that strip.  Out of what is left I cut a 6.5" square, a 5.5" square and a 2.5" strip (fabric is folded so there are 2 of everything).  The little strips are the 1" strip left over (5" long).  I already have a box of squares cut in the 2 sizes above so I'll add these to them.
My anemones are blooming but I didn't want to get eaten by the mosquitoes so I took this picture from my kitchen window.  If you want to see a better picture, click here and scroll down to the second and third pictures for last year's shots.

This picture was taken from inside also.  It isn't really clear because it was taken through the window screen.  It is hard to get a finch to sit still long enough to get its picture.  I took 7 shots to get this one fairly good one.
My dad's Lifeline equipment is set up.  The lady installer (drove 65 miles) said she had covered for the other installer (25 miles away) several times.  She was so apologetic over all the trouble I had.  One bad employee can give a company a bad name so you wonder why they keep them on the payroll.

I am reminded that I USED to have anemones! This summer they just wilted away -or something got to them. So I am glad to enjoy yours. I'd like to have an enormous stand of them - a CLUMP!

You just have to love those clean up cuts! They can be really useful! I always enjoy seeing what you will do with them. So glad that your father's lifeline has been set up. Boy does that really make you wonder about the people they employ?

I'm looking forward to seeing how you incorporate these new cuts in a project. The fabrics are beautiful.

the reason that company keeps the badly organized guy on the payroll could be because the clients he does install, he installs well, is kind to the person, and does the install so that the company does not have to go back and fix dead areas etc.

That is a lot of cutting for the Winding Ways!!! It is going to be gorgeous.

Your ananomes are lovely. Do they smell good?

Yes, why do they keep a poor employee like that? Glad everything is set up now.

I try to be efficient like that in my cutting too. Why cut for just one quilt when you can cut for multiples. It takes time to get the fabric out and ready for pressing so I like to make the most of it.

Glad all is well with your Dad's setup. I wonder how some people keep their jobs! I absolutely love your log cabin layout. Spectacular! I was glad to have rain here last weekend, no guilt sewing day as I couldn't get out in the yard and it's amazing how much can be accomplished without having other chores to fit in.

Because of you, I have changed the way I even up the end of my fabric ... I was taught to take only the merest smidgen off so as not to waste fabric. Now I am gathering a wonderful box of clean cuts for a future project.

Nice to have a reminder on cutting... And the fabrics, look wonderful.

Great photo's even through the screen... Gives it a soft subtle look.

So does Life Line alert you, Dr. or someone on staff where your Dad lives ?

72 different batiks????!!! Wow. That's all I can say. Drooling here.

Your photos are always so attractive, even through the windows and screens you manage to get good shots!

What a good idea about trimming the fabric and saving the strips, thanks. Wonderful photos!

Great idea to cut the fabrics to a uniform size. I like to start with strips too, so much easier to cut your squares.

Wanda, I just love your blog. I just awarded you the Versatile Blogger Award. I am continually amazed at how much sewing and quilting you accomplish in a day.

I like your cutting plan -- even though I had to sketch it out on paper to see how it worked! This would definitely make it easier to dive into a scrap quilt when the mood strikes.

Whew! All that cutting sounds exhausting! lol

Hello. I, too, keep up with your blog every day. I just couldn't resist commenting on your flowers. I live in NH My coleus, too, are very tall and growing well in this heat. I have pink anemones. Only... I loved the plant at first (I got it from my daughter's yard and started it from a small piece two yrs ago) and I had a hard time identifying it. But now..it has grown so gigantic and put out so many suckers that I am going to have to remove it. It has taken over the whole area, including strangling a peony bush. It seems to need a hillside or slope to spread out on. I'm not sure if I will keep any of it.
