I finished the 4 blocks needed for this layout. I have never done a spiral layout before and I have made at least 20 log cabin quilts, probably closer to 30 really. Every time I make one I know what I want to different on the next one. The blocks will finish at 9" and the strips were 1.5" wide.
Some blocks weren't a terrific combination of colors but the values~dark and light~worked well. As an all over effect I think it is very successful. I think the reason I like batiks is that they have the feeling of a watercolor painting.
I like this block better than the one above but I know the combination of all of the blocks is what makes the design successful.
I hand stitched one more side of my binding, so I have 2 sides to go. That probably means 2 more days because my thumbs are really sore.

The top looks great. My mom does the Log Cabin quilts, but I can't get into making them. I love them and have a couple. I have a half Log Cabin I am hand quilting that she made. Chris
You are an amazing woman, Wanda. I noticed that you are going to your 50th reunion in September, so am I. I asked you about a block pattern for the green quilt from your July 14 post, and you couldn't answer because I didn't have my blog set up right. I think I have it now, but my email is: 1zeezrom@gorge.net. I'm up early, writing a talk for church this morning on the topic of angels unawares. You're my angel unawares!! Your work ethic, your calm demeanor, and your service to others all contribute to reminding me of my goals...Thanks
This quilt is so beautiful. The spiral design is one of my favorites and I like the watercolor, painterly look of batiks a lot too.
You truly have a great eye for design and color! This batik quilt is just lovely and the spiral is wonderful. Another Wandaful creation!
This is a unique setting for me. Super zesty. You're so versatile, always coming with new things. You're so splendid with all you do. Love being around you in hopes of being splendid one day as well. Hee!
I love this spiral layout! I have never seen a log cabin like this before. It's WONDERFUL!!
another stunning Quilt. I love this layout. Thank you for posting all those lovely pictures of your Quilts
You have made me appreciate batiks. I had been a tradional quilter until I stopped dead in my tracks upon stumbling at your website by accident. I now open my day w/excitement wondering what you're up to. Thank you for being such an inspiration. I aspire to "see" as you do. Have a blessed day. Hilary
I love the spiral setting!
I love it! Hannah
I love the spiral layout! I will need to remember that one. I love log cabins too but I think I have made only 4 or 5 of them.

Another yummy quilt! This is a layout that really appeals to me too... always looking for something a bit different than the usual!
Oh Wanda ~ another terrific quilt ! Some blocks may have not been terrific to you, but wonderful to someone else. End result is breath taking.

The spiral design is beautiful. Your work is always exceptional.
WOW!!!!
Amazing -- isn't it great to see all of the variations of a log cabin block --- you have a beautiful quilt!! Great job :)
Beautiful!
I never thought about batiks being like watercolor until you commented about that but I agree with you- perhaps that is why I love them too.
You have many beautiful batiks as well as Kaffe fabrics. You do love color - me too!!
We went to the Art gallery today and say Escher- his drawings and compositions were so interesting but he uses almost no color- black and white was his thing. His work is amazing - just in a totally different way.
Have a great week.
Regards,
Anna
Lookin' good! I can't wait to see if you will take the pattern to the edge of the quilt or put a border on it.
Wanda, a total success!! Love the spiral set too. I haven't seen that before. Maybe someday I'll have enough batiks to do one - maybe a small one. Thanks for sharing. Any quilting thoughts??
I love the spiral setting of the log cabin blocks. I did one something like that in the winter of 2009. I love unusual settings. Right now I am collecting batiks in order to make something beautiful in the future.
I love this spiral setting! I've not seen one like that before.
The comments above say it all! Beautiful - the lights "twinkle".
