Another binding.................

There was one more quilt waiting for binding so I trimmed it and then started looking for something that would look good with both the front and back.  One of the bow ties is made of this fabric and I thought it would work well.  I'm glad I had enough of it.

I got one short side hand stitched last night.

This small project was just waiting for the border to be sewn on so I took care of that too.  It is made of Australian Aboriginal print fabric.

I went shopping for the plants for my porch pots and garage pots so I will be ready to plant on Saturday.  It's supposed to go down into the 30s one more night so I'm waiting..........
 

Sewing with triangles...................

Last night's sewing session was finishing up the 2" finished floral triangle squares.  I added 5 more piles of four after I took this photo so I could make 41 pinwheel blocks.

One idea for them would be like this quilt in a Kaffe Fassett book.  I would just have to find a fabric for the alternate squares.

Another idea would be to save them for a border on a floral print quilt.  I always hate having to make a lot of little blocks for a border after I get a center made.  I could do it the opposite way and have the border figured out first and then make a center.  If I sewed all of them end to end I would have a strip 328" long.  Maybe I'll wait until I have the floral star blocks back up on the design wall and see if they would work for that.

Second table mat........................

I finished the binding on the second table mat.  I was trying to find the date I made the tops but no word I entered in the search brought up a match.

Here are the two together.  The one on the left was made first and has 2 matching triangles in the corners and matching fabrics across from each other in some of the 4 squares.  The one on the right was all of the leftover pieced triangles and at the time I was designing it I wasn't sure I was going to sew it together.  I'm glad I did though because my daughter-in-law saw them yesterday and likes them and she has a birthday this month.

Basement doings....................

 I was in the basement doing laundry and finished up a few other tasks.  One was stacking the trays with the 2" x 3.5" rectangles.  I store these in a large bin with trays of 2 other size rectangles.

I found this partially sewn project.  I could slice and sew the strata and make another section like the first or I could cut it into 2 sections and add stripes to both sides of the sewn section, lining up the fabrics to continue the design.  The first option would make one piece 24.5" square.  The second option would make a piece approximately 24.5" x 35".  Either way it could be finished into a baby quilt with a border or two.

I finished knitting another dishcloth last night.  'Anonymous' wanted the pattern for this.  My email is on my right side bar.  I would be happy to share it if you email me. 

I also planted pansies in 2 pots yesterday.  It was in the high 50s and the pansies love the cool weather.  In the 40s overnight.  The same predicted for the next 2 days.

Small projects.................

 I finished quilting the second table topper last night and will get it trimmed today and get the binding sewn on.  This one is more scrappy where the first one had matching strips at the corners.

I pulled out all of my trays of 2" x 3.5" rectangles and worked on feeding the new cuts (shown at the center on top of the trays) into their color group.  The trays were all a mess, not straightened up after making the last quilt.

This is what they all look like now, ready for the next project.

Now I need to get the 2.5" x 4.5" rectangles taken care of.

I'm anxious to get my porch pots planted but we are in for some more cool days and nights.  No frost warnings, but just a little cool for new plantings.

April 2025 monthly recap......................

 There were 3 finishes in April.  The quilt on the left is all batik fabrics and the top was finished last year in October.  It is 62.5" x 74".

The other 2 finishes are made with Tilda fabrics.  I searched online for pieces from older lines to add to the newer lines that were available.  I had some green prints too but chose to only use the soft reds, roses, and blues in these 2 quilts.  The one in the center is a free pattern on the Tilda website, Whimsy, and I chose it because it had larger pieces that would showcase the fabrics.  It is 54" x 74".  The one on the right is a 16 patch with the remainder of the fabric with ladies inserted as alternate blocks.  It is 55" x 70".

I also have 3 quilt tops completed in April.  All three of these are from previous years and were just waiting for border decisions.  I think the one on the left looks like a game board.  It started with 4 star blocks, flying geese sashing and bow tie blocks.  The border pieces were strips that were already pieced years ago, and they finished the top nicely.  It is 40" square.  The one in the center got the 4 patches as a border before the 4th twig print border.  It is 45.5" x 57.5",  The flannel quilt on the right was started on December 2, 2023.  It took over a year to get the border cut and sewn on, kind of ridiculous.  It is 40" square and I have enough of the border fabric to use on the back.

I only finished one table topper in April.  It is almost 21" square.  I have another one very similar to this to finish in May.  

The second one will have the same backing and binding fabric as this one has.

I have one more quilt waiting for binding and one quilt partially basted to work on in May.  I will also be working outside more and also trying to clean up the basement and move more of my fabric up to the main level studio.

Last day of April sewing.............

This isn't the prettiest table topper I have ever made but it will serve a good purpose anyway.  The top was made to demonstrate how to make the block for a class over 10 years ago.  I just used strips that were already cut, not fabrics chosen specifically chosen for a project.  It is almost 21" square.

The back is a pretty fabric so that side might be used more than the pieced side.  I hand stitched the binding last night while watching TV.

I also added a border to a small flannel quilt top so it is an official finished quilt top now too.  I'll have the full photo of it tomorrow.

The Redbud trees are starting to leaf out so the pink is near its end.  Rain was predicted for very early this morning so that will speed up the petals dropping.
