All of the blocks................

I was too tired last night to get out of my chair to take a photo so you see it from my sewing chair.  I added all of the stripe blocks which added another row.  I need to trim the stripe blocks because they are just strip piecing made to slice to make more blocks but that didn't get done.  I think this might end up about 43" x 52" so it is going to be a small quilt.  I have no interest in going any farther with it.  If I had to come up with a name for it I think it would be Downtown.

I finished the mowing yesterday afternoon in the sunshine.  Then I pulled all of the weeds out of my raised bed where I have been planting tomatoes.  Today I hope to transplant a Hosta and a Columbine.

Playing with some old blocks............

I pulled out some old blocks that I started in Sept. 2017.  I was inspired by Maria Shell's book "Improv Patchwork, dynamic quilts made with line and shape".

I had some half blocks too so I worked them into the layout.

I added the last blocks and contemplated whether to make some more blocks.

I had made some stripe blocks in the same general color range too so I added two of them so I could finish the bottom row.

I switched the 2 stripe blocks with each other and put them in a vertical format.  I think that looks a little better.  I have more stripe blocks which I show HERE when playing with layouts in 2017.  I'm still uncertain what will be made with these blocks.

I mowed the front yard which was so overgrown yesterday afternoon.  I couldn't figure out what to work on during TV time playing with blocks that were already made seemed like the right fit.

Red series.............

I did not consciously start this year with a series of red quilts in mind.....it just happened.  The red crazy pieced top was a carryover from last year and I got it quilted right away in February.  Over the first 4 months and 10 days into May I started 4 more mostly red quilts and finished the 4th one into a top on May 10.  The only other one that is quilted and finished is the red and white star quilt......three are tops waiting in line to be quilted.  I think this series was subconsciously my way of staying warm in the long, long cold winter and early cold spring,  I think it is time to start working with spring colors.

Happy Mother's Day!!  I hope it is soon time to plant my porch pots.  Hopefully this is the last spring day down in the high 30s overnight.  Next weekend's prediction:  in the 80s.  That's a big change from our 47 degrees yesterday.

Another quilt top sewn............

This looks so different in person.  The camera did not want to pick up the totally saturated colors.  The purples look blue in this photo too.  I hope I can get a better photo with some different lights on it.  It is 59.5" x 77".  The solid color fabrics are from the 1980s and 90s and the Jinny Beyer Palette prints are from the early 1990s.  I finished the layout and started sewing while my 2 friends were here sewing yesterday.  My son and daughter in law took me out for pizza for Mother's Day because they will be gone this weekend.  When I got home I finished the sewing and pressing.  It was a good day.

Which one did I sew?...............

That was fun yesterday with all of the voting for which orientation of my floral colorwash was the favorite.  Number 3 got twice as many votes as each of the other ones but I sewed number 4.  I have to say I liked this one turned all of the ways so it wasn't an easy decision.  I needed to know which way was up because there are a few one way novelty prints in this colorwash.  There are 3 birdhouses, 1 frog and 1 with Cheetas and I wanted them to all be right side up in the finished piece.  Thanks to everyone who took the time to participate in this poll!

Floral colorwash position 1

I finished filling in the floral colorwash and spent all day tweaking it.  Now I need to decide which edge is top.  I'm showing all 4 positions here so you can tell me which one you like best.  I have already decided and have started sewing it but I'd love to know if you like the same way I do.

Colorwash all day............

I sewed the seams in the other direction on this cool color colorwash.  It is 26" x 32".

At least 2 of the students in my Colorwash360 class are using floral fabrics.  That inspired me to start one too.

Here is the straight on view.  I need to cut some more fabrics in the purple range.

The Indigo Bunting was back again yesterday but my visiting chipmunk and 2 squirrels chased it away so they could eat the bird seed.
