I'm still quilting this quilt and the lines of stitching are 5" apart. The batting recommends 4" or closer so there will be some diagonal quilting lines in addition to the ones in the ditch. I used a variegated thread for the ditch quilting so now I have to decide if I want to stay with it for the diagonal stitching, which will show.
I had a few charm packs (5" squares) of Kaffe fabric that I die cut into four 2 inch squares. I never use the charm squares as an accurate 5" cut because lots of them aren't accurate. About 2/3 of these had pinked edges and 1/3 was straight cut. Sometimes I die cut 4.5" squares from them. Now the whole pile is cut and I can go on to cutting some batik small pieces.

I never really had a lot of precuts, especially jelly rolls, as I’d heard so many people say what you’re saying, but I have picked up a few as they were such a great deal. I’m going to guess you’ll stick with the variegated thread for the diagonal quilting.
I do have a few 2.5" charm packs and they really aren't that precise--they just miss matching my die cut ones...;(((
Nice that you have all those you precut to work with on hand for a future project...;))) nice variety of colors...
50.4 here today with a 50 DP--a bit close and cool out there...
Hoping to get covid shots today...we shall see....

I, too suppose a variegated thread for the diagonal quilting. Looking good!
Wonder if folks still buy the pre-cuts? I know I stopped due to the bother of cutting them more precisely.
Our high today is 77*F and just now it's 65*F. Sweet autumn, but very early!
Hugs!
Oh my goodness all that yummy fabric to dive into,Im pulling browns & creams this morning
A variegated thread seems to be a good choice since there are so many different colors in that quilt. I agree that 5" precuts are not all the same. The only precuts I have were given to me.
I still buy fat quarters but rarely anything smaller. Sometimes, though, it is nice to have charm squares of an entire collection.
I buy fat quarters a lot and usually cut jelly rolls to 2.25 as they are for scrap quilts not following a pattern normally and that will work out for me. Right now though I am just trying to use up more stash and replace when needed.
That's a great idea to sub-cut those squares. I never trust that pre-cuts are accurate.
