Second finish for September 2025..........................

For binding, something in gray, taupe or black was going to look best with the back of this quilt.  I still had enough of this black and taupe Marcia Derse print to cut the 9 strips of binding.

I did the binding all by machine.  I used a dark taupe thread to topstitch the binding.  I didn't want to struggle seeing black thread.  This quilt is big, too big for me to get it up on the double design wall right now.  If you want to see the whole top, this post shows it.

I was happy to see so many responses to the digitally printed fabric.  I haven't heard anyone speak up that they do like it.  Since most online shops are not mentioning the printing type, it is definitely going to slow down any purchases for me and I will use the good older yardage.  Some of my favorite designers have gone all digital and I don't know if they have a choice in it.

There are still a lot of days in the 80s predicted for this week.  Not exactly autumn weather.

If the comments on digital fabrics are negative I echo them. I come from a town in the UK which produced fine examples of screen printing (in the 60's William Morris fabrics for Sandersons (who had purchased the original blocks) for example and I stay true to my heritage!!

[Digital Schmidita !!] Yes, this is why I am so thrilled with the fabrics you gifted me, Wanda--plus they are just in my "wheelhouse" for sure:))) thank you again...;)))
61 here this dewy morning; looks like another lovely day with the sun now risen over the hill to our East.
Hand quilting is on the agenda for a while for me this morning...
then, I have a whole group of little table topper starts that need bordering.so I hope to get my UFO's moving again...
DH will be mowing--it's been 7 weeks since the last mow--that's how dry everything is...after our little rains we see some greens again and the resultant "crabgrass" etc needs a haircut!!
Hugs, Julierose

There is one small benefit to digital printing - traditional methods do indeed make for a better "handle" and are nicer to use, but the economies of the industry mean that minimum print runs (usually 10,000 metres) are getting harder to justify in an over-stocked and over-provided market. Digital prints can be made in much shorter runs and reprinted on demand...The latest figures I have seen suggest that the industry is providing about 150% more capacity than can be serviced, alongside shops and big retailers closing down, this will mean a much smaller number of designers getting support and will mean that new products are not so easy to support. Sad, but the realities of the world today do not help...

The binding looks great! 80's today and tomorrow then around here we will be in the 70's. If the humidity is still high the 70's won't be that great.

Great choices on binding fabric and thread color, Wanda! I went to visit the August photo of this dynamic and wonderful quilt and you've done it again - an exuberantly colorful quilt from idea to reality! Applause!!

Hugs!

Interesting reading the comments on digital print fabrics. I"m not sure I've gotten my hands on any yet. I'm trying really hard to use up stash and not buying much so the shelves don't collapse.

I was wondering if part of the change was what Helen said. I have to say, it would be sweet to be able to be able to order more of an old fabric instead of searching for old stock on the internet. Print-on demand fabrics did have a problem with fading when they first came out, but I *think* they've gotten that much improved.

Love the latest quilt finish!

I don't think I've ever sewn with digital prints, so the comments about them have been very interesting. I do wish on-line providers were more informative about with collections are degitally printed.

Our weather is still too warm for the Fall season but when the cold finally hits it will hit hard😄 the final finish on the quilt turned out great!

We've been in the upper 70's and low 80's which is unusual this late in Sept. And we had only .5" of rain the entire month of Sept. Everything is very brown and wilted, even the shrubs. Of course, it's forecast to go down to 38 on Wed night, so it won't be long now. Time to start moving some plants inside.

Like Helen, I’ve been reading about digital printing and it seems the industry is trending that way. It would be interesting to learn more about the type of greige goods used for digital printings vs traditional screen printing…..be right back…..ok, here’s a pretty good article https://creativeretailer.com/digital-fabric-demystified/. Sounds like similar to screen printed cottons, where quality of the greige goods can vary, so too can screen printed greige goods.

I remember working with Paula Nadelstern the first year her fabrics was digitally printed. She had no choice in the matter. Her fabrics require precision printing on grain because of the symmetry. Thee first year has some challenges but, after that, they got it right.

Really ~ digital printing ? I had no idea… but wondered. Why such a silky finish ? Is it cheaper way to print ? The last 2 pieces I bought were bright and vivid and really detailed and at Hobby Lobby yet.
